THE POWER OF WORSHIP

and PRAISE

Post Encounter Lesson 3

Man was
created to
worship
God
“Out of the mouth of babes and
sucklings hast thou ordained
strength because of thine enemies,
that thou mightest still the enemy
and the avenger.”

Psalm 8:2
[ KJV ]
SATAN WANTS TO DESTROY THIS
RELATIONSHIP
“Again, the devil took him to a very high
mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of
the world and their splendor. “All this I will give
you,” he said, “if you will bow down and worship
me.” Jesus said to him, “Away from me, Satan!
For it is written: “Worship the Lord your God,
and serve him only.’”
Matthew 4:8-1O [ NIV ]
Worship belongs
exclusively
to God
TEN COMMANDMENTS
““You shall not make for yourself an image in
the form of anything in heaven above or on the
earth beneath or in the waters below. You shall
not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the
LORD your God, am a jealous God, punishing
the children for the sin of the parents to the third
& fourth generation of them that hate me.”
Exodus 2O:4-5 [ NIV ]
The Only Way to
Worship God is in the
Spirit
“God is Spirit, and
those who worship
Him must worship in
spirit and truth.”
John 4:24 [ NKJV ]
God is Spirit
“Jesus answered and
said unto him, Verily,
verily, I say unto thee,
Except a man be born
again, e cannot see the
kingdom of God.”
John 3:3 [ KJV ]
HOW CAN WE WORSHIP GOD?
“But will God indeed dwell on the
earth? behold, the heaven and heaven of
heavens, cannot contain thee; how much
less this house that I have builded?”
1 Kings 8:27 [ NIV ]

We can worship anywhere!

KNEEL DOWN
“O come, let us worship
and bow down: let us
kneel before the LORD
our maker.”
Psalm 95:6
[ KJV ]
“Therefore God also has highly exalted Him
and given Him the name which is above every
name, that at the name of Jesus every knee
should bow, of those in heaven, and of those on
earth, and of those under the earth, and that
every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ
is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

Philippians 2:9-11 [ NKJV ]

BOW DOWN
“O come, let us worship
and bow down: let us
kneel before the LORD
our maker.”
Psalm 95:6
[ KJV ]
Expression of Brokenness,
Humility, and of Rendering
“Whenever the living creatures
give glory and honor and thanks
to Him who sits on the throne,
who lives forever and ever, the
twenty-four elders fall down
before Him who sits on the throne
and worship Him who lives
forever and ever, and cast their
crowns before the throne, saying:
Expression of Brokenness,
Humility, and of Rendering
“You are worthy, O Lord, To
receive glory and honor and power;
For You created all things, And by
Your will they exist and were
created.”
Revelation 4:9-11 [ KJV ]

Acknowledge His authority

“In the year that king Uzziah died I saw
also the Lord sitting upon a throne,
high and lifted up, and his train filled
the temple. Above it stood the
seraphims: each one had six wings; with
twain he covered his face, and with
twain he covered his feet, and with
twain he did fly. And one cried unto
another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is
the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full
of his glory.”
Isaiah 6:1-3
SPREAD OUT HANDS
“I spread out my hands
to you; I thirst for you
like a parched land.”
Psalm 143:6 [
NIV ]
“The Amalekites came and attacked the
Israelites at Rephidim. Moses said to Joshua,
“Choose some of our men and go out to fight
the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top
of the hill with the staff of God in my hands.”
So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had
ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to
the top of the hill. As long as Moses held up his
hands, the Israelites were winning, but
whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites
were winning.
When Moses’ hands grew tired, they took
a stone and put it under him and he sat on it.
Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one
side, one on the other—so that his hands
remained steady till sunset. So Joshua
overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.
Then the Lord said to Moses, “Write this on a
scroll as something to be remembered and
make sure that Joshua hears it, because I will
completely blot out the name of Amalek from
under heaven.”
Moses built an altar and called it
The Lord is my Banner. He said,
“Because hands were lifted up against
the throne of the Lord, the Lord will
be at war against the Amalekites from
generation to generation.”
Exodus 17:8-16
[ NIV ]
HOW CAN WE
PRAISE GOD?
“I will bless the Lord at all times; His
praise shall continually be in my mouth.
My soul shall make its boast in the
LORD; The humble shall hear of it and
be glad. Oh, magnify the Lord with me,
And let us exalt His name together.”
Psalm 34:1-3 [ NKJV ]
GOD CREATED MUSIC
“Yet you are enthroned
as the Holy One; you are
the one Israel praises.”
Psalm 22:3
[ NIV ]
THE TONGUE
“A good man brings good things
out of the good stored up in him.
But I tell you that everyone will have
to give account on the day of
judgment for every empty word they
have spoken. For by your words you
will be acquitted, and by your words
you will be condemned.”
Matthew 12:35-37 [ NIV ]
Control the Tongue – The enemy does not
want us to use it to praise God

“Through Jesus,
therefore, let us
continually offer to God
a sacrifice of praise – the
fruit of lips that openly
profess his name.”
Hebrews 13:15 [ NIV ]
BENEFITS OF PRAISE

hear and rejoice. Glorify the Lord
with me; let us exalt his name
together.”
