Hi! I am Teacher Jaycel  Welcome
to SCIENCE CLASS!
Please be reminded of the following:
1. Turn your camera on at all times.
2. Mute your microphone, unless asked a
question by the teacher.
3. Sit properly during classes.
4. Be in your workspace or “ClassHome”.
5. Dress appropriately.
6. No eating during live calls.
7. It is best to have water bottles near you, in
case you get thirsty.
RECEIVING YOUR MATERIALS

Science is a hand-on class which includes

experiments that require the use of
potentially hazardous chemicals.
Safety is always the priority.

Your science materials kit is labelled ‘Fragile’.

Handle the materials with care.
Put the materials out of children’s reach.

GENERAL RULES
1. Conduct yourself in a responsible manner at all times when
performing any lab activity.
2. Follow all written and verbal instructions carefully. If you do not
understand directions, ask the instructor before proceeding.
3. Do not eat, drink, or chew gum when performing an experiment.
Never eat or drink out of lab containers.
4. Perform only those experiments authorized by the instructor.
Never do anything that is not called for in the procedure or by
your instructor. If you are interested in further experimentation, it
must be approved by your instructor.
5. Be prepared. Read all procedures thoroughly, prepare all the
materials needed, and read essential concepts before beginning
the experiment.
GENERAL RULES
6. Never fool around. Horseplay, practical jokes, and pranks are
dangerous and prohibited.
7. Keep your work area clean and tidy. Bring only necessary materials
to your workspace. Clear the area of extra things such as books,
backpacks, purses, and others.
8. Be alert and always proceed with caution. Notify the instructor
immediately about any unsafe conditions you observe.
9. Dispose of waste properly. Liquids should go down the sink. Solid
wastes should never be thrown in the sink and should be placed in
the trash bin.
10. Keep hands away from face, eyes, mouth, and body while using
chemicals. Wash your hands with soap and water after performing
all experiments. Clean all work surfaces and lab equipment
thoroughly.
GENERAL RULES
11. Handle all living or preserved organisms used in a humane and
respectful manner.
12. When using knives or other sharp instruments, carry them with the
tips pointed down and away from your body. If you drop a sharp
instrument, do not try to catch it. Grasp sharp instruments only by
the handle.
13. If you have a medical condition (e.g. allergies, colorblindness, and
others), check with your physician prior to doing the activity and
inform your instructor.
CLOTHING
14. Goggles must be worn whenever chemicals, heat, or glassware are
used in an experiment. There will be no exception!
15. Dress properly for experiments. Wear your lab coat, gloves, and
mask. Long hair must be tied back, and dangling jewelry must be
removed. Loose or baggy clothing must be secured. Shoes should
completely cover the feet.
ACCIDENTS AND INJURIES
16. Report any accident or injury to the instructor immediately, no
matter how trivial it may appear. Get help cleaning up chemical
spills. There may be special instructions.
17. If a chemical splashes in your eye(s) or on your skin, immediately
flush with running water for at least 20 minutes. Have someone else
notify the instructor immediately. Do not panic. Follow the rules and
get help, but do not create unsafe situations for others in response
to an emergency.
HANDLING CHEMICALS
18. All chemicals in the laboratory should be considered dangerous. Do
not touch or taste chemicals. Use the proper wafting technique to
smell chemicals.
19. Check the label on chemical bottles twice before removing any of
the contents. Take only as much as you need.
20. When transferring chemicals from one container to another, hold
the containers away from your body.
21. Handle acids with extreme care. Always add acid to water when
diluting acids.
22. Do not place flammable chemicals near heat sources or open
flames.
23. Take great care when transporting chemicals from one part of the
house to another. Hold them securely and walk carefully.
GLASSWARE AND EQUIPMENT
24. Never handle broken glass with your hands. Clean it up with a
dustpan and broom. Place broken glassware in the disposal
container.
25. When removing an electrical plug from a socket, grasp the plug,
not the cord. Make sure the equipment is turned off before
unplugging and that your hands are dry.
26. Examine glassware before using it. It should not be chipped,
cracked, or dirty.
27. If you do not understand how to use a piece of equipment, ask the
instructor.
28. Do not immerse hot glassware in cold water; it may shatter.
Remember, hot glass appears no different that cold glass. Pick up
any glass that has recently been heated with caution.
HEATING SUBSTANCES
29. Never look directly into a container that is being heated.
30. Always use appropriate equipment to transfer hot objects.
CHEMICALS TO WATCH OUT FOR

AMMONIA (NH3) – pungent smell

HYDROCHLORIC ACID (HCl) – corrosive
SULFURIC ACID (H2SO4) – corrosive

NITRIC ACID (HNO3) – corrosive

SODIUM HYDROXIDE (NaOH)
– can cause itchiness and skin irritation
AGREEMENT ON MATERIALS
Materials needed in the experiments are provided in the Learning Kit.
You have the responsibility to handle the materials or equipment with
care.

The equipment/materials must be returned to the school in the same

condition that they were received.

In the event that the equipment/materials are lost or destroyed while

in your possession, you should cover any and all costs associated with
the replacement of the lost/damaged school property.
ASSIGNMENT
After scanning through this presentation, you may
begin doing the activity or answering the
worksheet. We will have an Encounter tomorrow
to answer whatever questions you may have.
See you virtually ! 
