Troubleshooting Packet loss

on LTE & 3G sites

By Tracing active leg of services
Through Packet NMS:

1. Locate POP
2. Type POP ID in search box of services in Packet NMS.
3. LTE= 4G, IUB=3G and Abis Over IP (AOIP)=2G services
4. Right click on LTE ELAN services and browse PW and then right click on it and browse
MPLS-TP Tunnel.
5. Go to view/edit tunnel by right click and note junction points in path and also note their board
ports (only for active tunnel).
6. Open LCT and go to network monitor tab--> RMON option and check performance (BW
utilization) by clicking history control in RMON.
7. Check utilization of junction points only.
8. You can also verify VLANs by right clicking on ELAN service and go to associated end points.
Through LCT of POP SPO:
First locate POP from site list.
Ask for VLAN of sites.
1. Check service ID against VLAN from UNI (EVC selection settingsCE VLAN ID to EVC mapping)
2. Then go to services and note EVC identifier against service ID.
3. Then go to VLAN settings and note VSI and vfi ID against service name.
4. Now check MAC through Unicast forwarding against VSI ID.
5. Note PW through which MACs are being learnt. This is active PW towards CE.
6. Go to pwe3pseudowire and click on pw of desired vfi.
7. After this click on PW MPLS Mapping.
8. Here you can see tunnel on which active PW is running.
9. Go to services on Packet NMS and put tunnel name in search field.
10. Right click on tunnel and got to view/edit.
11. From here you have both paths of tunnel. Now note the path of active tunnel and check utilization of 10GE links of junction
points first from RMON performance in LCT.
12. Note Tunnel ID and check performance/BW utilization of 10GE links (Junction points only). How to check path of tunnel is
already shared.
MACs against VLAN/VSI
• Check PW is mapped against which VSI. Note VSI ID (Procedure already shared)
• Now go to bridgeUnicast filtering and filter required VSI.
• You will see all MACs against this VSI.
• MACs starting from 00 are the MACs of VRRP CE (VMAC).
You can also check how many LSPs are running
through specific port through below steps:
1. Go to that port.
2. Click on MPLS Interface settings.
3. Number of LSPs showing there are the total number of tunnels passing through
this port.
TN CLI Commands
• #show mac-address-table vlan 1560 (MAC address against VLANs).
• #show mac-address-table port 1 (MAC address against port)
• #show interface ?
• #show interface ethernet-eps
• #show interface ethernet-eps status (Show all WAN interfaces status details)
• #show interface ethernet-eps 1/11/104 WAN (WAN performance)
• #show interface ethernet-eps 1/11/4 LAN (LAN Performance)
• #show VLAN (How many VLANs configured)
• #show alarms (Display all active alarms at TN)
Important Points
23.1, 23.2, 23.3, 23.4 are the logical lag ports and four physical ports are added in it.
• 23.1 towards TN1
• 23.2 towards TN2
• 23.3 towards CE
• 23.4 towards CE
SPO--SPO (Tunnel for VRRP does not carry traffic. Loop will create if traffic carried on this tunnel)
Discards on WAN link can be due to dummy vlans. so if discard found on TNs its not surely means that issue on WAN link.
You can also confirm active CE through MAC learning table at TN. only active CE MAC will be learnt at TN (not of both
CEs).
Or alternatively we can provide mac to netops and ask them if this is active vrrp at their end as well.
VRRP master/active CE MAC: starts from double zero
• 00VRRP CE MAC (VMAC)
• 3400 Huawei CEs MAC
• CC ZTE CEs MAC
VSI mapped on Ethernet service
PW binned on vfi (Virtual frame index)
