AORTICVALVULOPLASTY
(BAV)
AT R E N D Y V I E W S
DISCRIPTION
• Aortic valvuloplasty also known as balloon aortic valvotomy is the widening of a stenotic
aortic valve using a balloon catheter inside the valve. The balloon is placed into the aortic valve
that has become stiff from calcium buildup. The balloon is then inflated in an effort to increase
opening size of the valve and improving blood flow.
ARTICLES NEEDED...
AORTIC BALLOON
CATHLAB KIT
Draping the patient in such away that inguinal fold lies diagonal to
the hole
Load 10ml of xylocaine in BD syringe
Load Heparin 5000IU (According to patient's weight) in 2ml
syringe
Flush the puncture needle, sheath, dilator catheters and guide wire.
PROCEDURE
• Exchange the catheter with a stiff guide wire which is compactable with the
balloon we use.
• Insert the TPI lead to the RV through the venous sheath, check the parameters
and keep ready for rapid pacing .
PROCEDURE
• Prepare the balloon in the trolley and keep it ready with negative
pressure.
• Insert the balloon through the stiff wire and position between aortic
valves.
PROCEDURE
• Prepare the balloon in the trolley and keep it ready with negative
pressure.
• Insert the balloon through the stiff wire and position between aortic
valves.
PROCEDURE
• Deflate the balloon and give adequate negative pressure and remove
the balloon.
PROCEDURE
• Insert the catheter again and check the aortic pressure gradient and
do an echocardiogram.
• Remove the sheath and compress the site till bleeding stops.
