What is Temperament

They are our patterns of behaviour... the ways


we usually respond to situations

According to Psychologists, the innate aspects of


an individuals personality such as introversion or
extroversion is termed Temperament.

It is also defi ned as a persons nature, ones


usual way of thinking or acting

They are instinctive or natural behaviours,


rather than learned behaviours
The Temperament Types

Four types of temperament have been identifi ed

 CHOLERIC

 PHLEGMATIC

 SANGUINE

 MENLANCHOLIC

 (SUPINE) - recently discovered


CHOLERIC (FIRE)
(Destructive Temperament) Extrovert
leader
 According to scholars, Choleric is the most
power ful and destructive temperament.

 They tend to be users.

 They do not forget easily.

 They are very quick tempered.

 They seldom change their mind even if they are.

 They want total control over themselves and


ever yone around them.
PHLEGMATIC (WATER)
(Peace Maker)

 T his is th e only temperament th at is basically moderate.

 T hey are ver y peacefu l at h ear t makin g th em great


assets social, political, f rien dsh ip, busin ess etc.

 T hey seldom u se ideas an d talents th ey have becau se it


requ ires to mu ch en ergy an d active par ticipation.

 T hey sit back an d watch oth er temperaments bu sy doin g


th in gs wrongly an d lookin g at all the wron g th in gs in th e
w orld th at n eed to be ch anged.

 T hey easily iden tify th e in ju stice bu t h ardly take any


action .
SANGUINE (AIR) - Extrovert leader
(Quick tempered)

A sanguine is an extrovert who has a


high need to include and be close to
others.

A sanguine is always cheerful, hopeful,


and expect the best in everything he /she
does in life. They always enjoy life.

A sanguine never thinks of failure or loss


in everything
MELANCHOLIС
(Perfectionist) (EARTH)
 Melancholic's approach ver y few people for
association and they do not like to be approached
for association.

 They are very selective with whom they socialize.

 According to scholars, melancholics are ver y


family oriented, closely bonded to individuals
within the family unit.

 They see life as a goal to achieve. Due to their


intelligence they predict pitfalls in a project
before they undertake it.
