Problem Statement
 Security has become a very challenging task for a society and
because the theft cases are rising.
 Many people get inside the society without any identity and
there are sometimes no record of people entering the society .
 Many a times the guards of the society falls asleep at night
which can compromise security.
 We propose to make a system that enforces security checks
with the help of face recognition technique. The system will
keep record of people entering the society and will make sure
whoever is entering has valid permission to enter the society.
Solution
 We are proposing to make a security surveillance system
which will keep record of people entering the society.
 There will be a camera placed at the entrance.
 When a person person arrives it will check for identity
through face recognition.
 If the person is recognised by the system then the person is
a resident/frequent visitor of that society. The system will
grant access to that person and the door will open.
 If the person is not recognised by the system the security
system will click a picture of that particular person and will
ask for permissions via an application from the owner who
has a non-residential visitors.
 The visitor will only be allowed to enter with the permission
of the owner.
 There will be an application avalible for all the residents of
the society which will allows them to grant permissions and
display visitors history.
 A user of the application can be removed as well as a new
user can be enrolled into the system.
 The system will take the details via voice or manually
through the application that is on the smart phone/tablet
with the security guard.
 If the person tries to enter without permission the door will
not open and an alarm will ring to alert the security guard.
Scope
 This project will be helpful to reduce the number of thefts.
 The system detects the human face using a camera module
interfaced with Raspberry Pi. The system is exposed to
numerous facial images of people from different angles and
background conditions.
 This forms the database to train the system which aids in
facial recognition.  Subsequently, when the system detects a
human face, it initiates an algorithm for recognition of face.
 According to images in the dataset, the system determines
whether the human detected is a resident or a guest.
 The system will use face recogination technique to
authorise entry in the society and it will not require any
other card based entry.
Literature Survey
 The number of thefts and identity fraud have frequently
been reported and has become significant issues.
 Home security system has become vital for every house.
Previously, most doors could be opened by keys, security
cards, password or pattern. However, incidents such as a
key loss has led to much worrying cases such as robbery .
 To overcome this problem, they came up with biometric
fingerprint based door lock system which was widely used.
 Thereafter face recognition security system was introduced.
Face Recognition technology has improved drastically in
the past decade and now it is primarily used for surveillance
and security purpose.
 Face recognition is a technique that is able to identify and
verify people for user identification. Raspberry Pi is a
programmable small computer board and used as the main
controller for face recognition. IoT system enables the user
to control the door access.
 All the systems which are currently in use in the market are
mainly used for industrial purpose and office environment.
Oursystem is used residential purpose. In this project a
application is used to grant permission to the visitors which
helps detect intruders and makes sure that no one enters
the building without their face getting captured and
permission granted by the owner.
