Reinforcing Teachers-Home Tutors’ Partnership: Gear Up for the New Normal

on Reinforcing Teachers-Home Tutors’ Partnership:
Gear Up for the New Normal
(C ustomized Structure of the Delivery of Instruction and other related activities in preparation for the Opening of Classes
for School Year 2020-2021 per Div. Memo No. 201, s. 2020)

Dr. Leah B. Apao EdD, CESE

Assistant Schools Division Superintendent
CID In-Charge

Reinforcing Teachers-Home Tutors’ Partnership: Gear Up for the New Normal

Rationale:

Republic Act No. 10533 provides for the establishment

of the K to 12 Basic Education Curriculum, a major
reform of the Department of Education (DepEd), which
aims to develop the learners holistically with 21st century
skills through an integrated system of education relevant
to the needs of the people, the country and society-at-
large.

Reinforcing Teachers-Home Tutors’ Partnership: Gear Up for the New Normal

Rationale:

R.A. 10533 intends to provide the learners with an

opportunity to build upon their prior knowledge while
utilizing their own skills, interests, learning styles, and
talents.
It highlights the learners’ involvement in the dynamic
social process which responds to and reflects the
changing social conditions.

Reinforcing Teachers-Home Tutors’ Partnership: Gear Up for the New Normal

On March 2020,
when President
Duterte ordered to
suspend classes
due to COVID-19
pandemic

Reinforcing Teachers-Home Tutors’ Partnership: Gear Up for the New Normal

DepEd Cebu Province Division
has immediately embarked on various initiatives to give
the best education that all the 528,749 Cebuano Learners,
enrolled officially for School year 2020-2021, deserve.

Reinforcing Teachers-Home Tutors’ Partnership: Gear Up for the New Normal

Ensure that all of our
528,749 Cebuano learners
can avail quality,
culture-based, of
equitable,
accessible,
liberating basic
education as envisioned by
Secretary Leonor Magtolis Briones
with face-to-face classes still
prohibited due to the public health
situation.

Reinforcing Teachers-Home Tutors’ Partnership: Gear Up for the New Normal

To embrace this New Normal Situation, there is a need
to capacitate the teachers and home tutors on their roles
and responsibilities, and other important considerations to
effectively and efficiently deliver the different learning
modalities based on the context of the learners.
TEACHER – HOME TUTOR PARTNERSHIPS
1. “ It takes a VILLAGE to EDUCATE a CHILD”

2. TEACHERS’ ROLE AS HOME TUTORS’ TUTORS/COACHES

3. SAFE GUARDING OF CHILDREN & DATA PRIVACY ACT

4. Health and Safety Protocols

5. Utilization of Teacher-Made Learners’ Home Tasks

“ It takes
a
VILLAGE to
EDUCATE
We are all familiar with the ancient
African proverb that says, “It takes a village to
raise a child.” The people your children are
around in their everyday lives will effect who
your children will grow up to be. Neighbors,
teachers, coaches and church leaders will have
an effect on who your child will be in the
future.
The Old African proverb says, “It takes a village to
educate a child” becomes significant today in our fight
against COVID-19 pandemic. We are all helping one
another to craft initiatives, programs and projects, to
capacitate us to make us more aware and can easily
adapt this New Normal in the new educational
landscape to deliver the said quality education to our
clientele, the SUGBUANON LEARNERS.

SAFEGUARDING THE
CHILDREN
Children are particularly sensitive
to :

•Separation from familiar surroundings and people

•Disruptions in their routine
Supporting Children: Stay-at-home
Orders
•Stick to normal routines as much as possible, and develop new routines
as needed
•Help children stay in touch with friends and extended family members
through video chats.
•Keep time spent online structured and positive(for example, using social
media to connect with friends and family members, consuming quality
content)
•Encourage active play and other offline activities , such as reading a book
or doing a craft project.
• Reinforce moderation in terms of device
usage.
• Have mutual agreements on acceptable
daily device usage.
• At this age, children are allowed to
create accounts in majority of social
media platforms.
• If creating an account for the first time,
make sure to have a walk through
during the registration process to
ensure that the privacy features are
turned on, as well as explore the
reporting functions of the platform.
• If your child already has an existing social
media account, have a review about
the privacy and reporting features of
the platform.
• Reinforce the concept of recognizing unsafe
online content, online interactions and
online behaviors, and reporting these to the
social media platform.

DEFINING SOCIAL MEDIA
COMMUNICATION CHANNELS

1. The goal is to identify how to

safely use the platform as a school
communication medium between

outright banning it (which is not
realistic).
DEFINING SOCIAL MEDIA
COMMUNICATION CHANNELS

2. Rather than having different

social media platforms, it best to
define what are the acceptable
social media communications
platforms.
DEFINING SOCIAL MEDIA

3. Social Media Platforms should

be accessible, have sufficient
safety tools and clear community

DEFINING SOCIAL MEDIA

DEFINING SOCIAL MEDIA

clearly defined group rules.
DEFINING SOCIAL MEDIA

What are TMLHTs?

• School works
• Set of tasks to be completed by the learners
outside the class
• Teacher-made
• Most Essential Learning Competency (MELC)--
based
• Allow learners to master the content/s/skills
• Reinforce what has been taught or learned
• Must be checked promptly
Utilization of Teacher-made Learner’s Home Tasks

Why Use TMLHTs

1. To support learning and increase learner success

2.To provide learners with opportunities to practice

a new skill gained

3.To assist teachers in an important professional

duty: the differentiation of instruction
Utilization of Teacher-made Learner’s Home Tasks

When To Use TMLHTs

1.When activities in the Self Learning Modules (SLMs)
are insufficient for learners to acquire the necessary
knowledge, skills and attitudes/values (KSAVs)
2. When the teacher, home tutor and/or learner find/s the
need to practice the KSAVs learned for better retention
3. When there is no available SLM
Note: TMLHTs not given to learners during the quarter may
be
included in the Teacher-Made Periodic Assessment Tool
