A) Transport Catering
 Terminal Catering - At every station there are food
establishments where passengers can get down when the
train/Bus breaks to eat food. Examples – Fast Food Chains
–Dominos ,Mc Donald's …Online portals for ordering food
 In transit Catering - The provision of food and beverages to
passengers during a journey on trains, aircraft and ships
and in buses. or private vehicles

B) Club Catering - Club Catering refers to the provision
of food and beverages to a restricted member clientele.
Some examples of clubs for people with similar interests
are turf clubs, golf clubs, cricket clubs etc.
 Proprietary club A for-profit group, such as a health
club, that sells memberships to the general public, single
owner or group of individuals
  Private club   not just anyone can join or enter. You
must be a member…. membership fees.

C) Function Catering - refers to service of special functions
for specific groups for people at an assigned time, the
food, beverages, and other facilities offered being
predetermined.
 In- house catering -is defined as guest-related
foodservice functions associated with business
meetings, conferences, conventions, and social concerns.
 Outdoor Catering - involves traveling to the physical
location of the event far from the restaurant or premises.
In this setup, caterers have to customize their kitchen and
dining area. 
WELFARE SECTOR – SERVICE ORIENTED
–SUBSIDIZED & NOMINAL PROFIT
1. Institutional Catering - is described as the art of
feeding people who are unable to feed themselves in the
modern world. It is responsible for the health and
welfare of the younger generation. It involves catering
for youth in schools, colleges & residential universities
2. Hospital catering -is to provide palatable. and nutritious
food for patients and staff within defined cost limits.
Menu planning will involve inputs from
Doctors,Nutitionist & Chef
3. Industrial catering -refers more to shops and factories
where food is made to primarily serve the needs of the
employees.
4. Relief Catering -When disaster strikes or an emergency
situation arises ,goal is to keep team of linemen, first
responders, emergency operators and project managers
fed, hydrated and energized so they can continue serving
those affected . Also to provide food packets to affected
population by floods, earthquake, cyclone etc
5. Catering by Religious Institutions - Langar, Prasad
including meals offered to devotees at
temples,Gurdwaras as well as by other religious
organisations .
Feeding programs undertaken by religious orders e.g.,
Ramkrishna Mission, ISKCON
KEY TERMS
 The galley is the compartment of a ship, train,
or aircraft where food is cooked and prepared.
 An airline service trolley, also known as an airline
catering trolley, airline meal trolley, or trolley cart, is
a small serving cart supplied by an air carrier for use
by flight attendants inside the aircraft for transport of
beverages, airline meals, and other items during a flight.
 Anchor - Heavy object used to keep a vessel from
drifting; usually an iron weight, lowered by cable or
chain to the bottom of a body of water to keep a vessel
from drifting.
