Effect of hot climate concreting on Plastic
shrinkage
Effect of hot climate concreting
On Strength
Procedures in hot climate concreting
To reduce Concrete temperature
 Use low heat cement
 Ceap cold materials
 Shadding concrete
 Use crushed ice
as batching water
 Use netrogen liquide
Procedures in hot climate concreting
To reduce Evaporation « plastic shrinkage »
 Fogging
 Plastic sheet
 Evaporation retarder
 Wet purlab
 Wind break
Standard of hot cimate concreting
Europeen and British standard BS EN 206
 EN 206: dont specifie hot climate concreting
 BS EN 206 recomande:
a) using admixtures to retard the hydration and/or increase the initial workability. A
retarder will not compensate for stiffening by moisture loss;
b) using a cement or combination that has a low heat evolution;
c) specifying a maximum temperature of fresh concrete less than that given in BS
8500-2:2006, 5.4.

Standards of hot cimate concreting
Astralian Standard AS
 As 1379 places a 35°C limit on the maximum concrete temperature at the time of
delivery.

 However, when the air temperature is above 30°C, it is usually recommended that
precautions be taken, particularly if there is also a hot dry wind.

 Procedures of hot climate concreting are indicated.

Standards of hot cimate concreting
ACI 305
 Definition of hot climate concreting: one or a combination of the
following conditions that tends to impair the quality of concrete:
high ambient temperature, high concrete temperature, low relative
humidity, and high wind speed..

 Recommand setting limite of evaporation rate to avoid plastic

shrinkage cracking.
Standards of hot cimate concreting
AASHTO-M157 and ASTM C 94

 Give more detail on procedures of hot climate concreting.

 Test of efficiency of curing compound.
 The rate, time and number of application of curing compound.
 Conditions on plastic sheet
 …
Conclusion

 Definition procedures and standards of hot climate concreting are

diferent.

 We have to define hot climate concreting.

 In condition on equipments and human recoures.

 Coose hot climate concreting procedures in based on jobsite conditions.
