Introduction and Objective
Introduction to Networking: the Project explains the concepts, technologies
and components used to build and maintain local area networks (LANs).
Students completing this course will have a solid understanding of the
fundamentals needed to build and maintain LANs. As a result, students are
well prepared to support and operate LANs in customer premises and
businesses.
Problem Specification

The project specification are as follow:

• There are 80 employees;

• Each employee has been provided a computer;
• There are four departments: Accounting Department, Marketing
Department, Personnel Department and Research Department;
• Internet services is provided for all employees
• All employee are able to access printer;
Working Schedule
Network Design
Design Specification
Client
An end point of the network, usually a computer or a smart phone. Clients can be mobile
and/or xed computers.
Router
The router connects di erent subnets and forwards information to the correct destination.
Access point
In a wireless network clients connect to the rest of the network through an access point.
The access point transmits and receives radio frames for WLAN equipped devices
enabling them to communicate. The dierence between an access point and a router is that
an access point only connects clients within a subnet, rather than interconnecting
subnets. However, one can think of an access point as interconnecting a wireless subnet
with a wired subnet.
Design Specification
Gateway
The gateway is used to connect the network to another network, usually the Internet. A
computer with two or more network interfaces can be used as a gateway. However, today
the gateway is often implemented as a combination of a router and a Firewall, with
optionally many local server functions, such as acting as a DHCP server, DNS server,
VPN end point
TESTING
In the process of building or designing a network diagram, it is important
that we carry on series of test as to prove that our network is efficient.
Some of these tests are as follow:

 Check if each client can connect to the servers and use the services
provided by the server
 Check if the network speed is acceptable
 Check if the backup server can successfully backup the data and restore
the data
 We should first use cable tester to test each cable and ensure that every
cable is connectable and no broken inside.
 Check if the servers are working properly
 Check if each client can login the network
Conclusion
As to conclude, the network is a local area network and it is very
adaptable. As employees get shuffled between teams and departments
and new hires come on board, a LAN ensures that every user and every
machine stays connected. You can add or remove devices, move
printers and computers to different areas of the building, and modify
user information for existing devices with minimum hassle. This
versatility is essential in today's fast-paced business world.
