RANKING AND SHARES OF Central Asian state in
world Oil and Gas production
• The region of Central Asia is known as the second Middle
East of the world in terms of oil production, because of its
massive potential for hydrocarbon exploration.
• As of 2012, it was witnessed that the remaining reserves
in the Central Asian states of Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan,
Kazakhstan was over 41×108 tonnes and 19.9×1012
cubic metres of gas reserves, which accounted for almost
1.9% and 10.6% of the world’s remaining recoverable gas
reserves respectively.
• the state of Kazakhstan is on top of the oil producing
countries in the region.
present status of Pakistan’s relations with Central
Asian states
• The TAPI project is one such example which is expected
to be funded by the Asian Development Bank.
• The preliminary MOU was signed between the
administration of Pakistan and Turkmenistan in the year
1995.
• all the states of Central Asian and Pakistan are part of the
Economic Cooperation Organization and the Organization
of Islamic Countries as well. This proliferates further the
relations of Central Asia with Pakistan and its overall trade
prospects for energy trade and commerce.
FINANCIAL AND TECHNICAL OBSTECLES
• The problem which these states have faced is that they
have not able to devise and implement a good worthwhile
economic policy which would ensure the effective usage
of these resources.
• these states are known have a very linear trading system
in which there is no diversification of the trade
commodities. This made them vulnerable to the
commodity price fluctuations in the system.
• WEAK GOVERNMENT.
CONCLUSION:-
• The research study has elucidated the overall potential of the Central
Asian region with respect to its oil and gas potential as well as its
relations with the South Asian state of Pakistan.
• The overall production levels of the Middle Eastern states, the OPEC
nations, was estimated to be around 4 million bbl/d. Also, the proven
oil reserves at the end of 2012 in Central Asia were around 31
thousand million bbls. The overall production of oil was only 1400
thousand barrels/day. The leading state in production of oil was
Kazakhstan which produced around 1728 thousand bbls/d.
• Pakistan is considered as an important trade route and natural
energy corridor for Central Asia, especially after the development of
Gawadar, Pakistan can now serve the region as the hub of trade and
energy.
