NANOTECHNOLOGY
Technique that deals with the manipulation
of matter at the nanoscale, which is a scale
that move in a range between 1 and 100
nanometer
Many breakthroughs in nanotechnology
have resulted in the development of a
range of existing materials such as carbon
nanowires and nanotubes, nanocrystals,
nanostructured metals and inorganic
substances of varied applications.
NANOTECHNOLOGY IN MEDICINE
Use of nanomachines for
site-specific delivery of
drugs, tissue regeberation
Artificial Retina and
useful in chemotherapy
of targeted cancer cells.
NANOBOTS
Nanobots are robots that carry
out a very specific function and
are ~50–100 nm wide. They can
be used very effectively for drug
delivery. Normally, drugs work
through the entire body before
they reach the disease-affected
area.
NANOTECHNOLOGY IN ELECTRONICS

Use of atomically
precise molecular parts
for molecular switches,
circuits and nanocells
for creating
NANOTECHNOLOGY IN MEMORY AND STORAGE

This is a 2 gigabyte
hard drive. It weighs
about 70 pounds. It was
first used in the 1980s.
Its cost at that time
ranged from $80,000 to
$140,000.

APPLICATIONS OF NANOTECHNOLOGY
• Nanotubes: carbon
nanotube mixed
with special
polymer to make
nanofibres and
painted on rooftops
as part of solar
INDUSTRIAL APPLICATIONS OF NANOTECHNOLOGY
Surfaces and coatings-
• The most prominent application of
nanotechnology in the household is
self-cleaning or "easy-to-clean"
surfaces on ceramics or glasses.
• Nano ceramic particles have
improved the smoothness and heat
resistance of common household
PRODUCTS WITH NANOTECHNOLOGY
• Sunscreen
• Many sunscreens contain nanoparticles of zinc oxide or
titanium oxide
Ingredients like
zinc oxide can
leave a white
sheen behind. But
sunscreens with
zinc oxide
nanoparticles rub
on clear.
PRODUCTS WITH NANOTECHNOLOGY
• Clothing
• By coating fabrics with a thin layer of zinc oxide nanoparticles, manufacturers
can create clothes that give better protection from UV radiation.
• Some clothes have nanoparticles in the form of little hairs or whiskers that
help repel water and other materials, making the clothing stain-resistant.
PRODUCTS WITH NANOTECHNOLOGY
• Antimicrobial bandages
• Scientist Robert Burrell created a process to manufacture
antibacterial bandages using nanoparticles of silver. Silver
ions block microbes' cellular respiration
NANOTECHNOLOGY IN MILITARY
Nanoparticles can be injected
into the material on soldiers’
uniforms to not only make the
material more durable, but also
to protect soldiers from many
different dangers such as high
temperatures, impacts and
chemicals.

In late 2008, local paint company Pacific Paint (Boysen) Philippines Inc., demonstrated an
incorporation of nanoparticle titanium dioxide a photocatalytic ultrafine TiO2, in it’s newest
product, Boysen KNOxOUT, which was later on branded as the most effective air cleaning paint
formulated to date.
