INTRODUCTION-GANTRY (GOLIATH ) CRANE
 Trolley runs horizontally along rails on girder.

 Wheels run on the gantry rail, perpendicular to


the trolley travel direction.

 Variable sizes and can move very heavy loads.

 Mostly used in shipyards or industrial


installations
PURPOSE

 Construct, maintain and assemble the ship.

 Final fitting of parts.

 Overall time of construction will reduce.

 Quick and efficient transporter of the parts from


Module Shop.

 Trapezoidal and hollow.


 Reduce bending force.

 Extend over the whole width .

 Section should bear maximum reaction and moment.

 Full length and short diaphragms should be inserted .

 To transmit the load to the web plates.

 To limit the maximum stress in the trolley rail.

 Moving and supporting the crane.

 Hinged leg and fixed leg.

 Fixed leg consists of Lift for operator

 Hinged leg maintains flexibility.


UPPER TROELLY AND LOWER TROELLY

 UPPER TROLLEY:
 Two rope drums of 100 ton capacity each.
 Operator’s cabin.

 LOWER TROLLEY:
 Main hoist and auxiliary hoist.
 Capacity of 150 and 50 ton respectively.
 SERVICE CRANE:
 Located on girder at hinged legs
 Used for maintenenance

 BOGI BALANCER:
 Placed beneath the legs.
 Primary and secondary .

 WHEELS:
 Placed below the bogie balancer
 Motion of crane on the rails.

MATERIAL :S355j2G3

EN 10025(European Standard).

S: Means that this is a structural steel.

355: Minimum yield strength (min Re=355 N/mm sq.)

J2: Min. Charpy test value= 27J at -20 deg.C

G3: Supply condition. Normalized or normalized rolled.

 SAND BLASTING :
 75-85 micron layer is formed .
 Checked for defects such as pinholes etc.

 WELDING :
 Flux core welding
 Arc welding

 MECHANICAL CONNECTIONS:
 High tensile bolts .

 Fastening shall be applied.

 Fastening should be corrosion resistance, surface


finish and metric size.
FUTURE DEVELOPMENT
 Analysis on PRO-E and ANsys.

 Load estimation on girder and hook.

 Assembly of fabricated parts of Crane.

 Erection of crane using foundation,hyraulic jack, skid


ways etc.

 Testing of crane.
