Process Summary
Grade/Step Progression is:
• A business process that determines the
grades/steps to which employees are eligible to
progress based on their current grades/steps
• Commonly used by the public sector, educational
institutions, as well as highly regulated, hourly-
paid organizations such as retail organizations or
those subject to collective bargaining
• Also used in commercial companies, e.g. for sales
organizations
• A Compensation Administrator’s tool that reduces
administration, eliminates bias, ensures internal
equity

• Determine Profile Usage
• Set Reference Level for grades only

• Removing an Eligibility Profile unlinks it

Participation Process: Grade Step
• Evaluates and processes potential life events
• Determines possible new grades or steps (maps
to electable choices in Total Comp model)
• Creates enrollment results and performs actual
grade/step change on person’s assignment (and
updates salary) or posts to Approvals page
• Run as frequently as needed per business
procedures
• May be run for individuals or in batch
