Summary on What’s Wrong with Traditional
Approaches the Lake Management
LAKE PROBLEMS 1. Most dollars are
spent on Chemicals,
Algae Blooms Harvesting and/ or
Dredging which only
Excessive Weed Growth
treat symptoms.
Odor Accumulation of
Muck/Loss of Depth
2. Few, if any
resources are directed
at solving root causes.
ROOT CAUSES

Loading Loading 3. Lake continues to
deteriorate over time,
Oxygen Depletion treatment costs rise.

Floating Islands for Reducing External
Nutrient Loading
What are Floating Islands?
ØPorous mats made of a matrix of 100%
recycled polyester and bonded together
with a high grade marine foam for
buoyancy.
ØHighly flexible system with a multitude of
design options for aesthetic and
functional impact.
Ø
How do Floating Islands Work?
ØThey create a self-contained environment for vegetation that can
absorb significant amounts of nutrients from the water.
ØThey mimic natural wetlands at a much lower cost than
reclaiming upland areas and converting them to wetlands.
ØThey are most effective for Lake Restoration when used around
storm drains and inlets to trap nutrients flowing into the lake.

Engineered Aeration & Beneficial
Bacteria/Enzyme Treatments
How Engineered Aeration & Beneficial
Bacteria/Enzyme Treatments Work
ØA system of underwater air diffusers connected to shore-based
compressor units by self-sinking airline.
ØEach system is custom engineered based on the specific needs
and requirements of each lake.
ØWater picks-up oxygen at the surface and is circulated back to
the bottom maintaining a continuous supply of oxygen
throughout the entire water column.
ØHigh oxygen levels and “off-gassing” reduce nutrient levels,
reducing weed and algae growth.
ØBeneficial bacteria and enzyme products are added to restore
balance to the aquatic eco-system.
ØBeneficial bacteria that require oxygen, literally eat the organic
muck on the bottom.

About the Lakes
Ø 100 Treatment area in 4 community lakes mile lake.
Ø Hyper-Eutrophic System.
Ø Aggressive herbicide program eliminated aquatic plants and led to algae dominated
lakes.
Ø Algae mats have been so thick that saplings have been seen growing on top of the algae
mats.

CLEAN-FLO System Anticipating
Questions and Concerns
Ø Will the system create a safety hazard for boats?
• No, there is nothing at the surface of the lake. The diffusers and airline are located on the lake
bottom.
Ø Will the system deplete the lake entirely of plants and algae?
• No, the system will gradually bring the lake back into a healthy balance of aquatic vegetation.
