Introduction

 A teleconference is the live exchange and mass


articulation of information among several
people remote from one another but linked by
a telecommunication system.
 This term is used to link people between two or
more than two locations with the help of some
telecommunication system.
 Audio conferencing, telephone conferencing
and phone conferencing are the terms that are
used to refer teleconferencing.
Media space
 These are electronic settings in which groups of
people can work together even when they are
not present in the same place at the same time.
 In media space people can create real time
visual and acoustic environment that span
physically separated areas.
 The recording, accessing and replying of
images can be controlled in media space.
Types of Teleconferencing
 Basically teleconferencing is of three
types which are following…..

 Audio conferencing
 Video conferencing
 Web conferencing

 It is a two way voice communication among
multiple locations in real time.
 These generally operates through public
telephone networks.
 Individual microphones and external speakers
at each locations are employed in professional
systems to carry out conferences in hands free
manner.
 It works in two modes, one is ‘dial up’ and
other is ‘meet me’.
Conference call
 A conference call is a telephone call in which
the calling party wishes to have more than one
called party listen into the audio portion of the
call.
 The calling party calls the other participants
and adds them to the call in various manners
according to the telephone used.
 This is used in business, party line, prepaid
conference call etc.
Video conferencing
 A video conference is a set of interactive
telecommunication technologies which allow
two or more locations to interact via two way
video and audio transmission
simultaneously.
 It is also called as “visual collaboration” .
 It is an intermediate form of video telephony.
 It was first deployed by AT & T in 1968
using their picture phone technology.
Technology
 The technology used in video
conferencing is digital compression of
audio and video streams in real time.
 The hardware/software that performs
digital compression is called as “codec”.
 This codec can either be an encoder or a
decoder.
Videoconferencing
components
 Video input : video camera or web
camera.
 Video output : monitor, television,
projector.
 Audio input : microphones.
 Audio output : loud speakers associated
with display device or telephones.
 Data transfer : analog or digital
telephone network, LAN or internet.

Web conferencing
 Web conference is a presentation or a lecture
that is transmitted over the web.
 The neologism used for a web seminar is called
as “ webinar “.
 It comprises internet as its communication
backbone, web browser as its client interface
and web server as its server that intercepts and
processes the client request.
 It is typically one way i.e. from speaker to the
audience.

 Webinar includes a question and answer round
for better interaction among the presenter and
the audience.
 Now a days in the market VoIP technology is
used for web conferencing.
 It is available in three modes, that are hosting
service, appliance and software.
 It provides real time interaction with
participants.

Conclusions
 Teleconferencing is a very useful technology for
telemedicine and telenursing applications, such as
diagnosis consulting, transmission of medical images,
etc., in real time in countries
 Using VTC, patients may contact nurses and physicians
in emergency or routine situations
 Teleconferencing provides students with the opportunity
to learn by participating in a 2-way communication
platform.
 Teachers and lecturers from all over the world can be
brought to classes in remote or otherwise isolated places.
 Students are able to explore, communicate, analyze and
share information and ideas with one another.
