Benefits for Terminal
Services
Great out-of-the-box features that allows:
Improved manageability
Improved access
Improved user experience
Key features include:
TS RemoteApp
TS Web Access
TS Gateway
Other features include TS Session Broker,
TS Licensing and Easy Print

Terminal Server
Experience
Terminal Services includes new core
functionality that enhances the end-user
experience:
Remote Desktop Connection (RDC) 6.1
Remote Desktop Connection Display improvements,
including:
Custom display resolutions (1680x1050 or 1920x1200)
Monitor spanning (up to 4 in a row)
Desktop Experience
Font smoothing
Display data prioritization
Plug and Play Device Redirection for Media Players
and Digital Cameras
Single Sign-On for Terminal Services
Display Data
Prioritization
Automatically controls virtual channel (VC)
traffic so that display data, keyboard and
mouse data is prioritized over other VC data
VCs are used for printing, copy & paste and
file transfers
The default bandwidth ratio is 70:30 - you
can change this ratio.
Single Sign On
Allows a user with a domain account to log
on once, using a password or smart card,
and then gain access to remote servers
without being asked for their credentials
again.
Single sign-on makes it
possible to give users a
better experience by
eliminating the need for
users to enter credentials
every time they initiate a
remote session.
Terminal Server
RemoteApp
Up till today, Terminal Services only provided
a mechanism to remote whole desktops.
With TS RemoteApp, users can now run
programs side by side with their local
programs.
TS RemoteApps can be resized, minimized,
and their notifications act as local
applications do.
If a user is running more than one
RemoteApp on the same terminal server,
RemoteApp will share the same Terminal
Services session.
Terminal Server
RemoteApp
Users can access TS RemoteApp in a number
of ways:
Double-clicking a program icon on their desktop
or Start menu that has been created and
distributed by their administrator
Double-clicking a file which has an
extension associated with a
TS RemoteApp
Accessing a link to the TS
RemoteApp on a website by using
TS Web Access
The user can interact with the program that
is running on the terminal server as if it
were running locally.
Terminal Server
RemoteApp
Deployment is as easy as 2 clicks… No
additional setup is required.

Terminal Server
RemoteApp
Requirements:
Terminal Server – Must run Windows Server 2008
Terminal Server Client (MSTSC) – Remote
Desktop Connection (RDC) 6.0, available for
Windows XP SP2 and Windows Server 2003
SP1/2
 Or
RDC 6.1, available on Windows XP SP3, Vista,
Vista SP1 and Windows Server 2008.
Terminal Server Web
Access
Makes Terminal Services RemoteApp
available to users from a web browser.
There is no need to install any client
software.
With TS Web Access, a user can visit a
website and access a list of available TS
RemoteApp programs.
When a user starts a TS RemoteApp
program, a Terminal Services session is
started on the terminal server that hosts the
application.
Users can also use TS Web Access to get full
desktops, if needed.
Terminal Server Web
Access
TS Web Access includes a default webpage
that you can use to deploy TS RemoteApp
over the web.
Terminal Server Web
Access
Requirements:
The TS Web Access server must be running
Windows Server 2008, the TS Web Access
role, and IIS 7.0.
The TS Web Access server does not have to
be a terminal server.
Client computers must be running Remote
Desktop Connection (RDC) 6.1 available for
Windows XP SP3, Vista, Vista SP1 and
Windows Server 2008.
Terminal Server Gateway
Enables remote users to connect to remote
computers on the corporate network from
any Internet-connected device that is
running RDC 6.0.
Uses Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP)
tunneled over HTTPS to help form a secure,
encrypted connection between remote users
on the Internet and the remote computers.
Eliminates the need to configure VPN
connections.
Connections from client to TS Gateway are
over SSL.
