Installation Guidelines for PowerCenter 8.1.

Pre requisites for PowerCenter Server Installation

Install Oracle Database The server on which PowerCenter Services are installed should be able to access the oracle database through a client connection Create a new database User account to hold Domain configuration metadata and repository. The Database user account should have the following privileges ::Connect (Role privileges) Resource (Role privileges) Select Catalog Role (Role privileges) Create Any view (System privileges)

The Database user account should be assigned a tablespace of minimum 50MB size

First screen that appears after Install.exe is run

Click on Server to Install PowerCe nter Server

Install Anywhere starts running

Click on Next

Browse and Specify the location of PowerCent er 8.1.0 License file.

Click on Next

Click on Next

Click on Custom Installation

Click on Next

Select PowerCenter Services

Click on Next

This is the default Installation Directory

Installation Directory can be changed using this

Click on Install

Select Create New Domain

Click on Next

Specify Database Type as Oracle

Specify Hostname and port number for the database. Hostname can be determined as follows :Start>Run>cmd> Type hostname Port number is 1521 (Default port for Oracle database) Specify the Database User account ,password and SID

Click on Test Connection

Click on Next

Click on Next

Specify the following: 1. Domain name :convention is domain_name 2. Hostname :Hostname of the machine where PowerCenter is being installed 3. Node name:convention is node01_name 4. Domain port no:Dont change the value 5. Domain user name:admin 6. Domain password:admin

Uncheck the box

Click on Next

Adding License

Select New PowerCenter repository Enter a name for the repository Specify Database Type as Oracle Specify Database User name and password Specify Connect String for the Database Click on Test Connection

Click on Client to Install PowerCe nter Client

Install Anywhere starts running

Click on Next

Click on Complete

Click on Next

This is the default Installation Directory

Installation Directory can be changed using this

Click on Next

Specify the Repository Name

No change required

Click on Next

Click on Install

If the Operating System is Windows XP, the following Compatibility warning may appear

Click on Continue Anyway

Starting the Informatica PowerCenter 8.1.0 Services

Follow the steps below for opening services on the server machine:Go to Start menu>Run>Type services.msc

After successful installation a service named Informatica Services 8.1.0 will get created.

Right Click and Start the service

Launching Admin Console

Click on Launch Admin Console

Specify Username as admin and password as admin

The node and repository service should be running

If the repository service is not running , check and edit the repository database properties if required

Click on Create contents to create the repository tables

Getting started with the Client Tools

Connect to Repositor y Manager to create users and folders

Specify Administrator as username and password.

Creating Users

Click on Manage Users and Privileges

1. Specify Username and password 2. Assign privileges

Creating Folders

Click on Folder> Create

Specify the folder Owner ,group and permissions

Use the username just created to access the other client tools. Use Administrator user for administering the repository
