Energy Crisis in Pakistan

An energy crisis is a great short fall(or price rise)in the supply of energy resources to an economy. It usually refers to the shortfall of oil and additionally to electricity or other natural resources.Thousands have lost their jobs, bussiness, our daily life has become miserable.

Causes Of The Energy Crisis

1. Aging of the Equipment. One very important reason attributed to this energy shortage is the aging of the generating equipment which could not develop the electricity as per design requirement. This is the responsibility of continuous updating the equipment and keeping the high standard of maintenance. 2. Wastage Of Energy. . Maximum energy is consumed by elite class which has all the resources of knowledge and communication.Govt should seriously embark on energy conservation program. 3.High Cost Of fuel: The cost of crude has increase from 40 s to 140 s/barrel. It means the generation from thermal units are costing exobitant price.WAPDA and KESC when purchasing electricity on higher cost are not eager to keep on selling the electricity on loss.

4. Monopoly In The Business: Wapda and Kesc are two generation and dispatch units in pakistan. This is suggested that private sector should be allowed to install power plant and settle the electricity to consumer.

Causes Of The Energy Crisis

5. Exploring The Coal: Pakistan has blessed with large amount of coal. However tailored made solutions are available to burn any type of coal.govt is looking for private sector to play its role. 6. Renewable Energy: The Govt exerting great efforts to develop the renewable energy. This is also suggested that small loans should be provided to consumer to install hydro and solar cells for one family usage of electricity.

Effects Of Energy Crisis

1. Economy: The economy of pak is very badly effected by the crisis halting major trade and economic and agricultural activities.THE factories having to shut down during the outages, international and domestic orders can not be fulfilled due to reduced production.Bussiness activity is reduced due to communication and infrastructure shutout.

Effects Of Energy crises

2. Unemployment: The world population continues to grow at a quarter of a million people per day, increase the consumption of energy. 3. Industrial Set Back: Many factories have closed due to insufficient power supply.Price of oil has gone above the ceiling. The cottage industry is demoralised as well.

How This Problem Can Be Solved

Energy Planning: IN spite higher cost immediate relief is only possible with thermal power plants which can be commissioned in 24 months time. A comprehensive and realistic planning will help to develop generating units in pak which will be a catalytic element for the economic growth, powerty, elevation and prosperity in pak.

Effects Of Energy Crises

1. Agricultural Set Up: Pak basically an agricultural country,70% population lives in villages. Most of the pop[ulation engaged in agriculture. The lacg of proper supply has greately effected the irigation system along with the production of fertilizery and insecticides. 2. Currency Devalution:

Due to prevailing Law and order situation and pak s close allies with USA on war on terrorism effects the economy very badly.this resulted the currency devalution.

Role Of Govt
1. TO Build New Dams: New dams can help in generation of electricity. The buildind of dams will also result in more job oppertunities for the people of pak. 2. Usage Of Available Raw Material: The coal reserve in pak is enough to last over a 100 years. The proper utilization suffice electricity but also sell it to other nations.

Role Of Govt
3. Wind energy: The govt is following a policy to encourage investment in wind energy. It is mainly that generating energy using this technology requires no fuel, and the energy production process does not pollute the environment.

Role Of Govt
Solar Energy: Solar energy is a distance possibility, although in a country like pakistan where clouds are a rarity for most part of the year it could be a workable option.this is the simple way of harnessing this energy for the industry, which is depenedent on stream generation through oil or gas-fired boilers.water can be pre heated by converging sun rays on tanks made of metal/alloys that can easily absorb the heat.
