Indian Hotels Company Ltd (IHCL), the group's listed hospitality firm, owns the Ginger hotels in the country through its subsidiary Roots Corporation Ltd (RCL).

Entry Strategy-Pricing
Ginger, which operates in the three-star category, initially priced its rooms competitively -- single rooms cost Rs 999, while a double room would not cost more than Rs 1,799, inclusive of taxes. And the tariffs were the same whether you're in Bangalore or Bhubaneswar, and whether it was January or June. While Ginger continues to be present in some of the smaller industrial towns, its presence in the larger metros is sparse.

Change in Pricing Strategy

Ginger had a fixed pricing strategy of Rs 1,000 per room earlier, which hurt profit margins in 2007 when real estate rentals and property prices hit the roof variable pricing strategy was introduced to keep a control on costs. Ginger's room rates were hiked by 5-10 percent in 2009
