Problems Encountered In Existing Manned LC
Gate Control System

• Excessive messaging time between station master

and gate man
— Existing system is based on spoken communication
between Station Master and Gate Man over telephone
line which is time consuming.
• Lack of alternate/back-up communication medium
— In case the cable connecting the station and LC gate is
unavailable due to breakage, theft etc. there is no
alternate means of communication.
• No accountability of personnel communications and
actions.
— No provision for recordkeeping

This LC Gate Control System was designed to solve
all these issues while keeping in mind the
following:

• No change to the communication protocol i.e. use the existing

‘private number exchange system’.
• Must not be complicated to use i.e. the existing staff should be
able to adopt it with ease and minimal training.
• Must deliver messages in the voice form and in local language.
• At any time voice communication between the station master
and gate man must be possible.

LC Gate System Solution
• Reduces transaction time between the station master
and gate man as they only need to choose among a
predefined set of messages.
― Message is encoded and transmitted in digital form.
― Message is played in voice form and also displayed on equipment’s
LCD screen.

• Alternate Wireless Medium is provided in addition to

existing 2-wire medium.
― Dynamic switching between wired and wireless medium. If both
mediums are available then wired medium will be used.
― This feature will also enable use of this system for gates where
there is no wire link between the station and LC gates.

• Accountability is provided through this system.

― The equipment records details of each message event like Time &
Date of transmission ,Gate ID,PVT No., Train Number etc. Upto
1,00,000 events can be stored.
― The system has a facility to take a hard copy of the log through the
systems printer port. 5

LC Gate System – Salient features
• Extremely simple to operate
• To provide the mentioned advantages only the mode of
message transmission has changed.
• No change in communication protocol between station
master and gate man therefore no re-learning needed.
• Reception of message is same as before i.e. voice based
and in local language ( in addition to English).
• Voice communication is always available as a standby.
