What is quality?
Quality

is a series of characteristics of an element which make it capable of satisfying explicit and implicit requirements

Quality system
The

organization, structure, responsibilities, procedures, and resources, for ensuring the quality of a product or service.

The first step in building a Quality System is a Quality Manual.

What is quality manual?

A Quality Manual is the main, top-level document which establishes the quality policies and objectives of an organization.

What is ISO
InternationalOrganizationforStandardization. ISO is not an acronym; instead, the name derives from the greek word iso, which means equal. Founded in 1946, ISO is an international organization composed of national standards bodies from over 75 countries. For example, ANSI (American National Standards Institute) is a member of ISO. ISO has defined a number of important computer standards, the most significant of which is perhaps OSI (Open Systems Interconnection), a standardized architecture for designing networks.

ISO 9000
An

international set of standards for quality management. Applicable to a range of organisations from manufacturing to service industries. ISO 9001 applicable to organisations which design, develop and maintain products. ISO 9001 is a generic model of the quality process that must be instantiated for each organisation using the standard.

ISO 9000 certification


Quality

standards and procedures should be documented in an organisational quality manual. An external body may certify that an organisations quality manual conforms to ISO 9000 standards. Some customers require suppliers to be ISO 9000 certified although the need for flexibility here is increasingly recognised.

ISO 9001 is the internationally recognised standard for the quality management of businesses. ISO 9001 applies to the processes that create and control the products and services an organisation supplies prescribes systematic control of activities to ensure that the needs and expectations of customers are met is designed and intended to apply to virtually any product or service, made by any process anywhere in the world

ISO 9001 is one of the standards in theISO 9000 family.

ISO 9001 certification by an accredited certification body shows commitment to quality, customers, and a willingness to work towards improving efficiency. It demonstrates the existence of an effective quality management system that satisfies the rigours of an independent, external audit. ISO 9001 certification enhances company image in the eyes of customers, employees and shareholders alike. It also gives a competitive edge to an organisation's marketing.
