Purpose: To clear the airways Position the patient Catheter:

 Adult: 12-18  Child: 8-10  Infant: 5-8

Hyperoxygenate before suctioning Use sterile technique Lubricate the suction with sterile saline solution Advance suction without applying suction Apply suction intermittently while withdrawing the tube in rotating manner Suction a maximum of 10-15 seconds

Purpose: to deliver oxygen to the body Types:

 Nasal Cannula  Simple Face Mask  Non-Rebreathing Mask  Venturi Mask

Oxygen is odorless, colorless, tasteless and dry gas that supports combustion.

Position the patient on Semi-Fowlers Place NO SMOKING, check for electrical outlet, and avoid using oil, grease and alcohol near the client. Humidify oxygen Check the effectiveness of the therapy

Purposes:
 Feeding/medication/fluids  Irrigate the stomach  Decompression

Position the patient Assess tube placement patency

    

Introduce 5-20 ml of air Aspirate gastric contents Immerse tube in water Measure the pH X-ray

Position the tube for feeding on the appropriate height

Types:
 Single  Retention  CBI

Purposes:
 Relieve bladder distention  Measure I/O  Empty the bladder

Catheter: male 16-18; female 12-14 Position the patient appropriately Length: male 6 to 9 inches; female 3-4 inches Anchor it appropriately.
