DOWNWARD-UPWARD COMMUNICATION AND MEDIA OF VISIUAL COMMUNICATION

INTORODUCTION
A brief Introduction

Downward communication: It is passing information to the subordinate. It increases efficiency by synchronizing organizational procedures and can ensure that all are working towards the same goal.
Upward communication : It originates from lower level of employment hierarchy. This communication focus that everybody is capable of generating thoughts and ideas resulting into organizational progress. It increases motivation and make employees feel valued.

DOWNWARD COMMUNICATION

The communication is said to be downward when it flows from the top to bottom.In the levels of management,this direction means the flow of communication from superiors to subordinates.When information comes from higher level to a lower-level in the organisation structure,it is termed as downward communication.

PURPOSE OF DOWNWARD COMMUNICATION

The five basic purposes of sending message from superior to the subodinates. 1)To provide specific task directives or instructions on how to do the job. 2)To provide information about organisational policies,procedures and practices. 3)To provide feedback on perfomance to the subordinates. 4)To provide philosophical information regarding the organisation mission or orientation towards goals of the organisation. 5)To provide information which produces an understanding of the task.

MEDIA OF DOWNWARD COMMUNICATION

The formal communication route is the downward channel.The objectives,brought policies,guidelines and other directions have to flow downward.In order to transmit messages to subordinates both written as well as used to media are used.Reports, manuals, procedures and other guidelines come from top level to the lower-level.

UPWARD COMMUNICATION
A communication said to be upward when it moves from the bottom to the top.In the organisation stucture,from the bottom to the top means the flow of communication from subordinates to superiors.Whenever information moves from a lower-level to a higher communication.upward communication may be transmitted either by oral media or written media.

MEDIA FOR VISUAL COMMUNICATION

The visual communication uses the following medias:slides,hoardings,pictures,magnetic boards,electrowriters,cassettes,tables,maps,cartoons,banners,visual aids and blueprints. A selected media may be oral or written. Any media can be used such as television,telephone,films,public address system, slides and a variety of media discussed above. Written communication system operates rapidly and with maximum validity having official support. However, in order to meet the requirements of various communication and recipients a judicious combination of a written as well as oral and other suitable media are always preferred.
