Preface
"Prior to Chlo's launch, luxury fashion houses had only ever produced Haute Couture (i.e. made-to-measure) clothing. This was fine for the few who could afford it, but it left everyone else in frequently poorly-made copies, supplied by the local seamstress. Chlo's creator, Gaby Aghion, rejecting the stiff formality of 1950s fashion (and sensing a gap in the market), decided to create a line of off the rack, high quality, soft, body conscious clothes from fine fabrics, which she called 'luxury prt--porter' and thus, the Prt--Porter (Ready-To-Wear) market we know today, was born.
The Name
The name comes from the Greek (khl), meaning young green shoot and is one of the many names of the Greek Goddess Demeter. But that is not why Gaby picked this name and became todays global brand she picked this name after one of her best friend, just because her own name Gaby sounded like an augur. The name Chloe, however was chosen to reflect the new mood of Paris : youthful and modern in design and slightly audacious in spirit.
Her Story
As the label attracts more and more admirers, the fashion house brings in young, insightful designers who later define the Paris ready-to-wear movement as le style
