Background
International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) is a set of accounting standards, developed by the International Accounting Standards Board (IASB, London) that is becoming the global standard for the preparation of public company financial statements.

Background
Focus is shifting from national to international standards
Europe has already moved to IFRS for listed companies & consolidated accounts. Japan & Canada by 2011, USA anytime 2014-16 ICAI has announced transition to IFRS by 2011. Companies would need to ensure IFRS preparedness as early as April 2010

Why IFRS?
Today businesses are crossing their national boundaries, promoting the synchronization of accounting standards across the globe. The application of IFRS will lead to better financial comparisons and enhanced transparency in financial reporting.

Opportunity
Awareness about IFRS and implementation issues are gradually building up within corporate India. However, the awareness needs to increase more rapidly if we are to achieve the proposed timelines for convergence
A recent survey in Canada (which is also seeking a 2011 IFRS adoption) indicated that more than 80 per cent of companies had already understood the impact of IFRS adoption and had well laid-out plans to achieve implementation Hence, there is a huge need to train professionals about IFRS in India in order to get prepared for IFRS convergence by 2011

About ACCA, UK DipIFRS Exam

The exam can be taken twice a year i.e. every June & December
The exam centers are Mumbai, Delhi, Kolkata, and Chennai In case of special exam centers the registration should be completed by 15th March, 2010 Exam fees of 160 covers 1 attempt & you can retake for the same amount Date for next exam is 10th June 2010 @ 2.30 PM

Objective of the course

On completion of the Diploma candidates should be able to:
Understand and explain the international regulatory framework of financial reporting Discuss and apply specified International Accounting Standards (IAS) and IFRSs to practical situations Prepare financial statements in accordance with specified IASs, IFRSs & International Financial Reporting Interpretations Committee (IFRIC) pronouncements Prepare group financial statements including subsidiaries, associates and joint ventures

Eligibility Criteria
A Chartered Accountant
A B.com with at least 2 years of relevant work experience in the F&A department ICWA/ Other graduates with at least 3 years of relevant work experience in the F&A department
