INTRODUCTION

S Seatbelt also known as safety belt is a safety harness

designed to secure the occupant of a vehicle against harmful movement.


S Seatbelts are intended to:
S Reduce injuries by stopping the wearer from hitting hard

interior elements of the vehicle or other passangers S Keep passenger in correct position for the airbag to deploy S Prevent passenger from being thrown from the vehicle

OBJECTIVE

S To give the audience an insight on the history of seatbelt

design that are widely used nowadays


S To convince the audience to always wear seatbelts every

time they ride in an automobile


S To instill some knowledge regarding the consequences

for not wearing the seatbelts

HISTORY

S There are many kinds of seatbelts available.

S The widely used seatbelt is the three-point seatbelt.


S Created by Swedish mechanical engineer Nils Bohlin on

1959 under Volvo company.


S It is considered one of the most important and

widespread safety innovations of all time.

STATISTICS

S Automobile accident take a frightful toll in lives and injuries every

year
S In 2009, there are approximately 372 062 accidents being

reported and from figure:

6218 killed 6978 major injuries

S In 2010, there are approximately 391 751 accident cases being

reported and from the figure:

6260 killed 6002 major injuries

FACTS!!!

S You can save yourself from becoming part of these

statistics by wearing your seatbelt.


S According to Department of Transportation, 1500 lives

would be saved annually if every driver fastened his or her seatbelt every time he or she rode in a car
S Study by the Motor Vehicle Association showed that

individual death and injury are reduced by 50% by the use of seatbelts.

S Questionnaires for not wearing seatbelts:

S Some of you think you can brace yourselves in case of a crash.


S But you may never see the other car in time. S Impact at 30 mph is 100 times the force of gravity.

S Some of you feel you dont need seatbelts for short trips.
S Im only going to the shopping center. this is actually the best

time to wear a safety belt as 80% of traffic fatalities occur within local roads.

S In this kind of accident, seatbelts help to keep you conscious

and able to escape.

CONCLUSION

S So I urge you to fasten your seatbelts every time you ride

in a car.
S Some may say they forget, but that particular one time

you forget may be the time you are injured or killed.


S If you dont buckle up, you may regret it sitting in a

wheelchair, or you may not even have the chance to regret it.
