to what extent the educational objectives are being realized.

-RALPH TYLER

Evaluation can be done by : Teachers

Self

Peer

SELF EVALUATION
It is a process in which an

individual rates the quality of his or her own work.

For example:-

You might record the amount of calories you eat each day and compare this to a standard or goal for calorie intake, to assess effectiveness of diet control programme.

Self evaluation is the process

which enables a person to estimate extent of one's own learning, progress and development.

In this kind of reflection,

students step back from the learning process to think about their learning strategies and their progress as learners, and this help them to increase their motivation.

GOAL SETTING

PORTFOLIOS

GUIDED PRACTICE WITH ASSESSMENT TOOL

GOAL SETTING
Goal setting in broad terms is the process

of deciding on something you want, planning how to get it, and then working towards the objective.
It give targets against which performance

can be measured.
It also increases students motivation towards

learning.

Goals set must be SMART i.e.

2. GUIDED PRACTICE WITH ASSESSMENT TOOL

Students can use broader self-

assessment tools( like checklist, ranking scales) to reflect on: topics they have studied, skills they have learned, their study habits, and their sense of their overall strengths and weaknesses.

3. PORTFOLIOS
Portfolios are purposeful, organized, systematic

collections of student work that tell the story of a student's efforts, progress, and achievement in specific areas.

STEPS OF SELF EVALUATION

PLAN THE EVALUATION:WHAT WHY

PLAN TO START THE PROCESS AGAIN.

IMPLEMENT THE EVALUATION:Clarify Objectives Decide the type of information need to be collected. Record and Analyse the findings.

EVALUATE SELF EVALUATION:What should be done differently next time

USE THE RESULT FOR PLANNING FOR CHANGE AND FURTHER LEARNING

Changes role of student from passive to active. Focus on learning rather than product. Enables deeper learning look more deeply at things

they have done.

Development of self-evaluative skills to improve own

learning ability thus resulting in more effective learning.

Encourages development of autonomous learners rather

than passive dependence on lecturer.

Contd.
Encourages greater ownership in the work undertaken. Increased motivation. Prepares more adequately for the work/employment

environment .
Encourages students to focus on their achievements and

areas in need of development .

Supports lifelong learning.

Improve Skills
Enhance Self Awareness Improves Decision Making

Determining Needs
Enhance Motivation Reduce psychological stress.

Enhance Personal Growth

No Accountability. Not all students are mature

enough to be sincere when they do self-assessment.

Students are not familiar with

this technique they might not feel comfortable

Peer evaluations are assessments, ratings, or

evaluations of a person's product or performance, that are carried out by peers.

TYPES OF PEER REVIEW

Peers note their personal responses. Writer of the text listens but does not enter conversation Process-based

Peers first review and then give advice on the text Writer and Reviewer then talk together Product-based

ESSENTIALS OF PEER EVALUATION

Students must feel comfortable and trust one

another in order to provide honest and constructive feedback.

The learning environment in the classroom must be

supportive.
Students should have a prior a practice session with

it.

Peer Review works best in a structured environment:

CLASSROOMS

CONFERENCES

STRUCTURED ORGANISATIONS

PARTICIPATION OF TEACHER IN PEER EVALUATION

1) TO MOTIVATE THE STUDENTS FOR PEER EVALUATION.

2) TO MAKE THEM AWARE WHAT THEY NEED TO EVALUATE AND POSSIBLE METHOD AVAILABLE FOR EVALUATION.

3) REDUCE THE CHANCE OF ERROR BY CONSTANT SUPERVISION.

PURPOSE OF PEER EVALUATION

To help the instructor to monitor and assess work

done in a group.
To enhance collaborative learning. To enhance the evaluation skills in students. To improve individual and group accountability in

achieving desired learning goals.

Helps students to become more

autonomous, responsible and involved. Encourages students to critically analyse work done by others, rather than simply seeing a mark. Helps clarify assessment criteria. Gives students a wider range of feedback. Reduces the marking load on the lecturer.

CONTD..
Focuses on the development of students judgment skills. Provides more relevant feedback to students as it is generated by their peers. Several groups can be run at once as not all groups require the lecturer's presence.

Students may lack the ability to evaluate

each other.
Students may not take it seriously,

allowing friendships, entertainment value, etc. to influence their marking.

Students may not like peer marking

because of the possibility of being discriminated against, being misunderstood, etc.

Contd.
Without lecturer intervention, students may

misinform each other.

Additional briefing time can increase a lecturers

workload.
At the other extreme students may be discriminated

against if students gang up against one group member. same mark.

Students will have a tendency to award everyone the

HEALTH CARE ORGANISATIONS AVOID PEER

EVALUATION BECAUSE:1. Peer review is considered as time consuming by many as

more time consuming than traditional superior/ subordinate appraisal method.

2. It is believed to increase interpersonal conflicts.

3. As peer evaluation shift authority from management

the insecure managers may feel threatened.

people with whom they work closely.

4. Peers may be uncomfortable sharing feedback with

Self Evaluation and peer evaluation are the essential
