What is Fashion Forecasting :

Fashion forecasting is the prime issue underlying the issue of trends. It is not an occupational guessing game because very substantial amounts of money of the fashion industry are at stake. It. Is a vital activity where experienced fashion analysts scrutinize past buying patterns signs for current market dynamics and project these into the future. There are forecast agencies that collect facts pertaining to consumer buying patterns, activities and occasions for which clothes are needed, their priorities, reading habits etc. this is done through liaison with stores, retailers and wholesalers fashion professionals also rely on information sources such as design, colour and video Services, newsletters, books, magazines and websites. In order to gear up for the season to come, the fibre and textile producers must start new developments almost two years in advance, clothing and accessory manufacturers must have their products ready well in time months before the consumers' wearing season. Without well-judged projections of designs, colours and fabrics by the forecasters, the producers would not be able to sell in large quantities of unsold to be disposed through discount sales, the importance of the forecaster in trend analysis becomes invaluable.

Forecast 2006
Styles that are stronger, bolder, darker and wilder, come fall. Last season's minimalistic tendencies may be relegated to the ignored recesses of your wardrobe, together with the sweet and the sensual. It's all about making a louder statement. Go Gothic and a trove of delectable jewels. But remember, femininity is never out of fashion

DARKER SIDE OF BEAUTY: GORGEOUS GOTH

Toss the softer, sweeter side of you out of the window... it's time to go dark and wicked. From the House of Dior to our very own Fashion Weeks, Gothic influences were omnipresent in all ways possible. But the trick is to get this exaggeration just right, as the look is still beautiful, soft and very, very sexy. Styling Mantras Permit your chiselled body to pull off volume with gracious ease - be it skirts, dresses, tops and tunics with godets, panels, engineered flares and ballooned up hemlines. Team this volume with a pair of cigarette pants or a fitted skirt and these copious silhouettes make for trs chic options for lavish soirees. Opt for deep burgundy, mauve, plum or cherry red. You can also go for eternal black or brown embellished with peacock blue and fuchsia pink. For a touch of softness and sophistication in your glamorous ensemble, indulge in extravagant lace on woven silk, velvet or satin, elegantly cut and draped for gowns and skirts. Great options to go with are the Dior Gaucho bag and high voltage, stone studded cork heels.

Bring out the charcoal eyeliner and kohl, mascara, fake lashes and loads of attitude - and you're the Gothgoddess. Eyes heavily done with eyeshadow, lined with kohl and finished with oodles of mascara with a dash of gloss will help with the finishing touch and make you look smoking-hot. For a more minimalistic but equally bold look, choose from a number of add-ons like chunky dark jewellery, diamant glares, embellished headbands and hair accessories, fishnets, crystal studded stilettos, pointed pumps or boots in glossy PVC and oversized bags.

Go for it: Sushmita Sen, Bipasha Basu, Monikangana Dutta. Collections: Namrata Joshipura, Rocky S, Carolina Herrera, Burberry Prosum.

The New York shows are over, and the muted mood of fall 2006 has begun to emerge: dark, stormy colors, big sweaters, and a scattering of blasts from the eighties past. From leggings and booties to a little velvet dress, heres what you need to know about the shape of things to come.

Your Leggings Are No Longer for the Gym. Its a lean season for the bottom half. Zac Posen and Ralph Lauren were among the many who championed the stovepipe trouser. For the brave of backside, Thakoons plain black legging with a shrunken pea is as modern as it gets. For the rest of us, theyre handy when it comes to layering. (And it frequently does this season, too.)

Youll Cuddle Up in Roomy Knits. Every so often, designers really do keep comfort in mind. When the blizzard of 07 arrives, youll have plenty of sweaterdresses to choose from: Derek Lams is roomy in black and white, while Karl Lagerfelds is slinkier, with peekaboo cutouts all along its sides. And Zero Maria Cornejo belted a white sweater-coat for a sleeker silhouette.

3.Youll Go Into a Cocoon.

Balenciaga (Cristbal, that is) must have been on everyones mind because the great designers elegant signature cocoons showed up on everything from a Marc Jacobs jacket to a brocade skirt by Vera Wang. Its a more flattering volume than previous seasons, when far fuller experiments dominated the runway. Next fall, restraint will rule.

4.Youll Blow Off Your Blow-out. Because hats are big, big news. Floppy chapeaus were paired with evening dresses (Ralph Lauren, Marc Jacobs), tidy berets added a clichd yet effective Parisian charm to just about everything at Thakoon, and Vera Wangs velvet toppers evoked the androgynous chic of Romeo Gigli.

5.Youll Go Mad for Plaid. Really! The glamorous cut of Marc Jacobss wrap coat kept it from looking like a uniform, and Ralph Lauren made tartan sexy for evening. Behnaz Sarafpour managed a nostalgic look with a grownup flair. Oscar de la Rentas shift dress is decidedly unfussy: exactly what his well-heeled clients like for lunch at La Goulue.

6.Youll Show Off Your Ankles. An eighties undercurrent ran through the week, with zippers here and (see No. 1) leggings there. But no body part was as eighties as the feet, which were done up in sassy booties with a dangerous heel again and again. Thakoon touched up his version with a perforated leather that looked like lace, and Donna Karan added hardware for a tougher edge.

7.Youll Get to Know the Lippi Cat.

Whether or not youve heard of this Chinese animal, youre about to cop its spots. It looks rich and adult on coats at Oscar de la Renta and Tuleh and far cooler on a grungy Marc Jacobs dress or as a clash-happy layer at Anna Sui. Whichever way you wear it, lippi is a new and surprisingly versatile neutral.

8.Youll Wear Color Rarely, But Boldly. Derek Lam said his collection is about New York at night, racing through Times Square and catching flashes of color. The same could be said for the season as a whole, which was on the dour side but dotted with rich splashes of brilliance: crimson at Carolina and Calvin, plum at Donna Karan, royal blue from Vera Wang.

9.Youll Find a Velvet Gold Mine. There were piles of velvet, shown every which way. Proenza Schoulers sleek, crushed-velvet minidress is exceptionally sharp. Sari Gueron used the plush fabric for a laid-back, embellished tunic, and Behnaz Sarafpour channeled velvets princessy roots, with a pouf skirt and a petticoat.
