INTRODUCTION
As the basic law of Physics says energy can neither be created nor be destroyed it can only be converted from one form to another . It will be good if we could store this energy. Regenerative braking refers to a system in which the kinetic energy of the vehicle is stored temporarily, as an accumulative energy, during deceleration, and is reused as kinetic energy during acceleration or running. Regenerative braking is a small, yet very important, step toward our eventual independence from fossil fuels.

WHY RBS????

As we can see around 4%-5% total energy generated by the engine is wasted in braking. By RBS, we can save this energy which can be used by the car. In this age of energy crisis, this energy gained can be used in various ways

Between 33% and 50% of kinetic energy a generation 3 Toyota Prius can regain through regenerative braking under normal city driving!!!!

HOW RBS WORKS

In a traditional braking system, brake pads produce friction with the brake rotors to slow or stop the vehicle. This friction is what turns the car's kinetic energy into heat. When the driver steps on the brake pedal of a car using regenerative braking system, the brakes put the vehicle's electric motor into reverse mode, causing it to run backwards, thus slowing the car's wheels. While running backwards, the motor also acts as an electric generator, producing electricity that's then fed into the vehicle's batteries.

BENEFITS
STORES ENERGY WHICH WOULD HAVE ANYWAYS BEEN LOST TO THE ATMOSPHERE. IT BOOSTS GREEN CREDENTIALS. IT MAKES THE CAR MORE EFFICIENT> THE BATTERY LASTS LONGER.

LIMITATIONS
The regenerative braking effect drops off at lower speeds; therefore the friction brake is still required in order to bring the vehicle to a complete halt. Physical locking of the rotor is also required to prevent vehicles from rolling down hills. The amount of electrical energy capable of dissipation is limited by either the capacity of the supply system to absorb this energy or on the state of charge of the battery or capacitors

FUTURE OF RBS
Regenerative braking is something that is becoming a modern standard for vehicles of all descriptions as what was before just wasted energy used to slow a vehicle down is now being captured for re-use by the vehicle, making it more efficient. Regenerative is no longer only related to braking. Regenerative system is now used in suspension also.
