INTRODUCTORY STATEMENT
Purpose of the study: To produce a sustainability policy and
an action plan as shown in the outline. We have adopted the STEEP Analysis as our technique pointing out the external factors affecting the implementation of the policies and plans to be adopted by our firm.

- Is to create sustainable housing and infrastructure, - Utilizing new technology while preserving the local environment.

- This is to be done in an economically advantageous


way whilst maintaining political sensitivities. - Investment in research and development in the long term.

-Our aim is to become leading sustainability housing


provider in Berkshire by 2016 at which point we will have a capability to produce zero emission homes -This will make up 60% of our business.

-We aim to use cutting edge technological


advancements in order to drastically reduce CO2 emissions from road building and make water recycling a priority. -This will make up 40% of our business.

LOGO FACILITIES/ASSET MANAGEMENT -In response to increasing BOT procurement methods by the UK government we aim to build and operate a high proportion of our future projects. -To ensure profitability we will develop an asset management capability. (Whole life costing) -To ensure our social commitments we will further develop our facilities management department.(Through life management)

SOCIAL - Engage the local community and be more transparent. E.g. visiting local schools, hospitals, creating newsletter for door to door distribution, explain the potential effects and benefits of future projects and sustainability policies. - Involvement with local academics and universities. Commissioning an engineering doctorate student at the University of Reading.

- Discuss with suppliers about where and how the materials are sourced. - Using policy and processes from leaders of other external industries e.g. Manufacturing and oil and gas sectors.

- Minimize on site concrete dust, air and water


pollution - Lime mortars are more preferable to Portland

cement mortars in terms of recycling


- Bricks bonded with lime mortar can be reused if the building is demolished

- Ensure that operatives and site staff are trained


to understand waste energy the importance of usage and minimizing during pollution

construction. Furthermore that they appreciate the impact of the local wildlife flora and fauna.

The following are crucial aspects to the success of our sustainability policy:
-Board and CEO must be key driving force behind policy implementation -Keep process simple -Ensure integration between business departments -Appoint a green manager to oversee sustainability issues -Constantly monitor progress and keep staff, partners and the public informed -Build strong relationships with external partners -Do what works for our organization (consider financial and geographic limitations)
