Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata was an Indian entrepreneur and industrialist, prominent for his pioneering work in Indian industry. He founded the Tata Group of companies. Jamsetji Tata is regarded as the "father of Indian industry". Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata (R.D. Tata, 18561926) was a Parsi businessman who played a pivotal role in the growth of the Tata Group in India. He was the first cousin of Jamshedji Tata, a pioneering industrialist of India and the Founder of Tata Sons.

J.R.D TATA
Jehangir RatanJi Dadabhoy (J.R.D) Tata was born in Paris,France in 1904. He was the second child of Parsi father Ratanji Dadabhoy Tata and his French wife, Suzanne "Sooni" Brire. His father was a first cousin of Jamsetji Tata, a pioneer industrialist in India. He spent most of his childhood in France and later moved to Bombay(Mumbai). He attended Cathedral and John Connon School in Mumbai.

ACHIEVEMENTS
Founded the Airline Industry called Tata Airlines(Today known as Air India) in 1932.

Appointed as Chairman of Tata & Sons in the year 1934.

Started 14 enterprises under his leadership. Started TATA MOTORS in the years 1945.

In 1948 Air India went International. In 1968 he founded TATA CONSULTANCY SERVICES.

In 1979 introduced a new method of work in TATA STEEL. In 1987 founded Titan Industries.

J.R.D Tata was a pioneer aviator who built Indias Largest Airline Industry Tata Airlines(Today called as Air India) in 1932. Tata had a great interest in Aviation. He became the first Indian to clear Pilots exam obtaining first Indian issued Pilot License. He is also known as the Father of Indian Civil Aviation. It is his interest in aviation that motivated him to build Air India.

AIR INDIA
Air India was founded by J. R. D. Tata in July 1932 as Tata Airlines, a division of Tata Sons Ltd. On 15 October 1932, J. R. D. Tata flew a singleengined Flight carrying air mail (postal mail) from Karachi to Bombay via Ahmedabad. Air India has the fourth largest share in India's domestic air travel market, behind Jet Airways, Kingfisher and IndiGo. Air India has three subsidiaries. Together Air India, Air India Cargo, Air India Express and Air India Regional form the Air India Limited.

Air India serves 49 domestic destinations and 26 international destinations in 19 countries across Asia, Europe and North America. The airline operates a fleet of Airbus and Boeing aircraft serving Asia, Australia, Europes and North America. Air India has faced multiple problems, including escalating financial losses and discontent among employees. Air India remains one of Indias finest Airline Industry and currently run by Government of India.

TATA & SONS


In 1925 J.R.D joined Tata & Sons as an unpaid apprentice. In 1934 he was elected as Chairman of Tata&Sons making him the head of the Largest Industrial Group of India. JRD Tata was one of the most enterprising Indian entrepreneurs. He was also famous for succeeding in Business while maintaining high ethical standards .i.e.Refusing to Bribe politicians. He was so successful that assets of Tata Group grew from US $100 million to a massive sum of $ 5billion.

He started 14 enterprises under his leadership and half a century later in 1988 he left Tata & Sons. In the year 1945 he found Tata Motors which was a great success. Tata Motors is one of Indias Finest Industries today. In 1956, he initiated a program of closer 'employee association with management' to give workers a stronger voice in the affairs of the company. He firmly believed in employee welfare. Tata & Sons cherished during his period as a Chairman.

TATA MOTORS
Tata Motors is Indias largest automobile company, with consolidated net profit of 9,274 crore Rupees (US $2.07 billion) in 2010 11. It is the leader in commercial vehicles and among the top three in passenger vehicles. Tata Motors has products in the compact, midsize car and utility vehicle segments. The company is also the Fourth Largest Truck manufacturer and Second Largest bus manufacturer.

Since It was first rolled out in 1954 it has manufactured and sold around 4 million vehicles. Established in 1945 it started producing locomotives until it came up with a commercial vehicle in 1954. Tata Motors in 2005, was ranked among the top 10 corporations in India with an annual revenue exceeding INR 320 billion. In 2010, Tata Motors surpassed Reliance to win the coveted title of 'India's most valuable brand' in an annual survey conducted by Brand Finance and The Economic Times.

In 1998 it launched Tata Indica, India's first fully indigenous passenger car. Designed to be inexpensive and simple to build and maintain, the Indica became a hit in the Indian market. It was also exported to Europe, especially the UK and Italy. In January 2008, Tata Motors launched Tata Nano, the least expensive production car in the world at about 120,000 (US $3000). The city car was unveiled during the Auto Expo 2008 exhibition in Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

TATA MOTORS MAJOR ACQUISITIONS


In 2004 Tata Motors acquired Daewoo's truck manufacturing unit, now known as Tata Daewoo Commercial Vehicle, in South Korea. In 2005, Tata Motors acquired 21% of Aragonese Hispano Carrocera giving it controlling rights of the company. In 2007, Formed a joint venture with Marcopolo of Brazil and introduced low-floor buses in the Indian Market. In 2008, Tata Motors acquired British Jaguar Land Rover(JLR), which includes the Daimler and Lanchester brand names.

TATA CONSULTANCY SERVICES


is an Indian IT services, business solutions and outsourcing company headquartered in Mumbai, India. It is the largest provider of information technology in Asia and second largest provider of business process outsourcing services in India. TCS has offices in over 42 countries with more than 142 branches across the globe. It was first started by J.R.D Tata in the year 1968.

In the early 1970s, Tata Consultancy Services began exporting its services. The company pioneered the global delivery model for IT services with its first offshore client in 1974. In 1979, TCS delivered an electronic depository and trading system called SECOM for SIS SegaInterSettle, Switzerland. It was by far the most complex project undertaken by an Indian IT company. TCS established the first software research center in India, the Tata Research Development and Design Center, in Pune, India in 1981.

In the early 1990s, the Indian IT outsourcing industry grew tremendously due to the Y2K bug and the launch of a unified European currency, Euro. TCS pioneered the factory model for Y2K conversion and developed software tools which automated the conversion process. In 1999, TCS saw outsourcing opportunity in ECommerce and related solutions and set up its E-Business division with ten people. By 2004, EBusiness was contributing half a billion dollars (US) to TCS. During 2005, TCS ventured into a new area for an Indian IT services company - Bioinformatics.

TCS is one of the largest private sector employers in India. TCS has one of the lowest attrition rates in the Indian IT industry. In the past and in the present, TCS has been criticised by its employees in Public forums on its Appraisal and Promotion policies. As a brand, TCS is the 76th Most Trusted Brand according to The Brand Trust Report, 2011.

TATA STEEL
It is a multinational steel company headquartered in Jamshedpur, India and owned by Tata Group. It is the world's seventh-largest steel company. Tata Steel was founded in the Year 1907 much earlier than J.R.D Tatas period. Tata Steel has been recognized as the best steel producing company in the year 2005. The Growth of Tata Steel is due to J.R.D Tatas methods which he implemented in the year 1979.

J.R.D Tata brought in a new scheme in the year 1979. Tata Steel instituted a new practice: a worker being deemed to be "at work" from the moment he leaves home for work till he returns home from work. This made the company financially liable to the worker for any mishap on the way to and from work.

TITAN INDUSTRIES
Titan Industries is the world's fifth largest wrist watch manufacturer and India's leading producer of watches. Titan watch division was started in 1987. It exports watches to about 32 countries around the world Titan formed a joint venture with Timex, which lasted until 1998, and setup a strong distribution network across India. Titan Industries has claimed to have manufactured the world's slimmest wrist watch Titan Edge.

AS A VISIONARY LEADER
With more than sixty years of experience in top management, he developed his own philosophy and method where leadership was concerned. One of the qualities of his leadership is to assess what is needed to get the best results for an enterprise. Self-effacing, modest, wistful and endearing are a few of the adjectives used to describe JRD Tata.

AWARDS WON
JRD Tata was honoured with a number of awards. He received the Padma Vibhushan in 1957 for his remarkable contribution to the aviation industry, the Guggenheim Medal for aviation in 1988. In 1992, because of his selfless humanitarian endeavors, JRD Tata was awarded India's highest civilian honor, the Bharat Ratna. In the same year he won the United Nations Population Award for his crusading endeavors towards initiating and successfully implementing the family planning movement in India.

CONCLUSION
To conclude it all JRD was great Leader who serves as an inspiration to many of us. JRD is the one who started it all for TATA .It was because of him TATA has emerged into a huge Company. What JRD started years back has brought in massive success to the company. JRD had that spark to start the fire. To conclude it I would say JRD Tata was a Visionary leader who created a Launch pad for the company to emerge.
