Total Care

Yumiko Kan, HTM

Mother Nature made me realize how small I am.
And same time Mother Nature gave me courage and
strength to confront with unendurable pain and destruction.

I've found that there is always some beauty left

—in nature, sunshine, freedom, in yourself;
these can help you.
Look at these things, then find yourself again, and God,
and then you regain your balance.
Anne Frank

They shall beat their swords into plowshares,

and their spears into pruning hooks:

nation shall not lift up a sword against nation,

neither shall they learn war any more.
But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree;
and none shall make them afraid.
Micha 4:3-4

Crisis of

Nature & Humans

Crisis of self destruction
Human history is facing a crisis of self destruction and the
destruction of nature due to our cultural, social, psychological,
economical, and political systems. Humans are running
compulsively without vision or goal. Science and our modern
system have brought material wealth to humans but at great cost.
Mother Earth is in crisis. Humans are facing a wall and are
unable to take action in this confused maze.
Many people’s souls are empty and plagued by chronic depression.
Many have lost any sense of meaning in their lives and their ability to
think creatively.
We are at risk of losing our humanity and the natural world .

We have to cross over the boundaries of professional disciplines
in order to begin a vital dialogue about what it means to be human
and about the value of nature.
We have to create our future paradigm together
by integrated practical researches and dialogue.
We need to generate a positive magnetic field (potos)
so that our efforts and striving merge together.
Nature & Humans Total Care”

    as Future Palladium

Nature & Humans Total Care” is a provisional title for a movement
that seeks a new paradigm and calls for a new voyage to a future
full of hope for nature and human beings.
While it is not yet a structured concept or academic field,
it is a courageous effort to confront our crisis and create
a new paradigm by integrating science, culture, and art.
Such an integration of fields will, we hope, provide us with
the wisdom and direction to create positive change in our
daily practical situation.
Nature & Humans Total Care views human beings,
and cares for them, in a holistic manner.
We will not only seek the survival of Nature and Humans,
but also develop a mutual relationship
between Nature & Humans.
It is well known that humans must be socially
responsible to care for the natural world.
If humans do not take responsible action,
the destruction of nature will be severe
and will threaten human existence.
What is not as well understood is that Nature,
in its own way, provides nourishment
not only for the body
but for the soul of human beings.
Relevant research fields
First, there are academic areas that relate with human life
and human care, such as
Bioethics, Medicine, Social Welfare, Education, etc.

Second, there are areas that relate with Natural Science

such as Biology, Animal Science, Geology, Agriculture,
Horticulture, Environmental Science, Ecology, Garden art,
Landscape Design, Architecture, City Planning, etc.

Third, Science and Arts that relate with Human and

Humanity, such as Philosophy, Psychology, Ethics,
Literature, Art, Ethnology, Anthropology, Theology,
Religion, Archeology, etc.
Fourth, there are areas that relate with Human Society,
such as Sociology, History, Economics, Law, Politics, etc.
Nature & Humans Total Care is an interdisciplinary area
in which different areas influence each other by crossing the borders.
Nature & Humans Total Care strives to create “comprehensive
practical Science/Art”, which takes total care of Nature & Humans.
Nature & Humans Total Care
sees the importance of
the new practical therapy areas
that were born in
medical care,
social welfare,
and education.
Education
Non-Medicinal therapy

connect human life

directly with Nature,
Horticultural Therapy/Therapeutic Horticulture
Horse

therapy
Animal assisted therapy, Art therapy
Dance therapy ,
Forest therapy
Holistic Medicine
Sports by the handicapped
It is essential that these areas have a high
quality of professional ethics and
self-critical researches,
because these areas are directly responsible
for Human Life.
These new areas should be proved by
trustworthy reason and evidence.
Goal and Vision of
Nature & Humans Total Care
First vision
Nature & Humans Total Care will seek a total care
approach in accordance with the concept of health
as defined by the World Health Organization:
"Health is a dynamic state of complete physical, mental,
spiritual and social well-being
and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity."
Second Vision
Nature & Human Total Care advocates
the Ottawa Charter for Health Promotion
(1986)-WHO
which recognizes that health is a function of
political,
economic,
social,
cultural,
environmental,
behavioural and
biological factors.
The fundamental conditions and
         resources for health are
1, peace
2, Shelter
3, education
4, food
5,income
6 a stable eco-system
7, sustainable resources
8 social justice and equity.
Third Vision

Unite the
wisdom

East and West

Fourth Vision Social Globalisation
Fifth Vision
Transitioning from
medical care of treating illness
to medical care of Human Beings
as a whole person
SALUTOGENESIS

Aaron Antonovsky suggests a similar conception in his idea

Salutogenesis. The term Salutogenesis is derived from salus,
which is Latin for health, and genesis, meaning to give birth.
Salutogenesis literally means 'that which gives birth to health'.
In traditional public health and medical practices a 'pathogenic‘
perspective, in which the focus is on disease or illness and its
prevention or treatment, most often dominates interventions.
Adoption of a salutogenic perspective highlights the importance
of starting from a consideration of how health is created and
maintained.
