heat better.
Learning Outcomes : A student should be able to : 1. State that dark and dull objects absorb heat better than white shiny object 2. Carry out the experiment to investigate heat absorption Element 1 : Science Process Skills
Construct Instruction
: C1, C3, C4,C6, C7,C10 and C11 : 1. Carry out activity and record observation with result. 2. Write a task report
Activity Report Format : 1. Title 2. Aim : Absorption of heat : To investigate how different types of surface absorb heat. 3. Hypothesis: A dark, dull surface absorbs heat better than a white, shiny surface. 4. Variables: 1) Constant : The distance from the heat source to each surface
6. Procedure : 1. One of the beverage can is covered with black rough paper and the other one with white glossy paper . 2. The apparatus are set up as shown in the diagram. 3. The readings of both thermometers are recorded in two minutes interval for 10 minutes.
Procedure:
Thermometer
cork
Bunsen burner
8.
i) Why must the flasks be placed equally far from the candle flame? To allow both flasks to receive the same amount of heat . ii) Which surface absorbs heat better? Dark and dull surface absorb heat better than white surface. iii) Which colour of dress will make you feel hotter, black or white? Explain your answer. Black colour of dress will make me feel hotter because it absorbs heat better than white dress.
iv) Based on your experiment. Explain how to dry up fishes in a short duration of time. Fishes could be dried up in a short duration of time on a dark and dull tray as dark and dull tray is a good absorber of heat. v) State the increase temperature of flask A and B after 10 minutes. The increases of temperature of flask A is 19 C and can B is 9 C. vi) Which can shows a greater increase in temperature? Dark and dull can vii) Based on the observation, what can you say about the changes in temperature with time? Explain your answer. The longer the time of heating, the higher the temperature because the can absorbs heat.
9. Conclusion :
Dark and dull surface is a good absorber of heat.
