Choose a word you would like to illustrate. This can be any word you want to work with, like hot, water, calm, love, whatever. Choose a font face that best suits the word youve chosen and the image youve chosen that illustrates that word. Open the image you downloaded in Photoshop.

Once the image is open, select the Text tool on your tool pallette. The menu at the top of the screen should change. Click onto selectthe T with the dashes around it:

Next, select the font face and the font size you wish to use. Click in the image. Type in your word. As you type, the letters should actually be a sort-of window to the picture underneath, like you see in the image below.

When you are doing typing your word, click once on the Move tool icon in the tool pallette.
Your word should become a selection.

Select Edit and drag down to Copy. Select File and drag down to New. Photoshop should recognize how big your selection is and autoformat the size of your new image for you, so merely click on OK. In the new image window, select Edit and drag down to Paste. Your image should look something like this:

Save the image.

Part Two

Select File and then New. The new image should be about 8 inches in width by 4 inches in height (really too big to use on a web page, but better to start big and then crop/resize if need be).

The resolution should be, of course, 72 pixels/inch. The mode should be set at RGB color. The Contents should be White.

Using the Color Picker, select a foreground color and fill in the image with that color. Using the Color Picker, select a foreground color for your text.

Click on the Text button in the tool pallette. The options bar at the top of the Photoshop window should change.

You can see that there are a variety of options for the Text tool. For this activity, do the following:

Choose the font face you wish to use. Choose the font size you wish to use. Click in your image and type your name.

Once you are satisfied with the text, make sure the Text tool is selected in the tool palette and right-click once on the image.

Select Warp Text... from the menu that appears. a. Select one of the Warp Text styles from the Style feature. You should be able to see a preview of your image on screen. b. Once you have selected a Warp Text style, play with the Bend and Distortion options. c. Once you are satisfied with the style, bend, and distortion you want to apply to your image, click on OK.

Next, select Window and make sure that Hide Layers is listed. (If Show Layers is listed, drag down and let go on Show Layers.) Make sure the Text tool is selected in the tool palette.

Right-click once on the Text layer in the Layers box. Select Blending Options from the menu that appears.

Experiment with different text-manipulation options in the Styles menu within the Blending Options box.
To select a style and apply it to your image, click in the box to the left of the style. You should be able to preview the changes to the text on screen.

Experiment with different General Blending and Advanced Blending options. Once you like the way the text looks, click on OK to set the changes. You should be returned to your image.

Crop the image to a reasonable sizedont leave too much dead space around your name.
