Logging is not a good thing!!!

• One of the ways the
Brazilians are, and
have been destroying
the rainforest is by
cutting down trees
from the forest.
• The logging
company’s are looking
only for certain types
of trees, ex: Brazilian
Mahogany
 More Logging!!!
• Extensive areas of the rainforest are often
destroyed by loggers, this is called Clear
Cut Logging.
• Even the roads to the logging areas are
destroying the rainforest, because when
they clear them they are destroying more
and more of the rainforest.
Mining
• Mining has destroyed
the rainforest, because
when the miners go in
they must clear trees
to get to where they
are digging.
 More Mining
• One of the major groups to start out mining
in the rainforest were the Bandeirantes, who
were looking for Indian slaves, gold,
emeralds, and other minerals.
• This caused much pollution, because the
miners equipment created lots of smoke
 Coffee Plantations!!!
• The other major
reason that the
rainforest is being
devastated is because
of the coffee boom,
which started in the
1850’s when Brazil
was producing half the
worlds coffee.
 More Coffee Plantations
• Most coffee was first planted near Rio de
Janeiro.
• The coffee plantations soon spread to São
Paulo.
• This created a high demand for land for the
coffee plantations. So much of the forest in
these areas were cleared out for the
plantations.
 Hydro-electricity
• Hydro-electricity has
had tremendous
effects on the
rainforest, because
when they dam the
rivers it floods
massive areas of the
rainforest that are
behind the dam.
The Burning of the Rainforest!!!
• Burning of the
rainforest is hard on
the environment
because it causes the
greenhouse effect,
which is when thermal
radiation is caught by
the o-zone layer then
bounces back to earth.
 More Burning!!!
• They burn the forests, so that they can make
way for new roads, and more land to farm
and ranch on.
• The green house effect is created when the
forest is being burned, because when the
trees are burnt they give of carbon dioxide,
which then gets trapped in the atmosphere.
How we can save the
rainforest!!!
• There are many ways
that we can save the rain
forest
• One example of a way
we can save the
rainforest, is to only use
one mine at a time. Then
when that mine is
depleted of its resources,
the miners could plant
new trees where the
mine was, then they
could move onto a new
mine.
 More ways to save the
rainforest!!!
• One way that the loggers could help save
the rainforest, would be that when they
clear an area, they should have to replant
new trees in the area that they have cleared.
• The government could also set up reserves
of the rainforest area, that the loggers could
cut in, and restrict the other areas.
