Objective of Project Proposal

To check the environmental mobility and geochemical partitioning Water quality assessment(parameters, like alkalinity, DO etc) To verify whether water that we are using for domestic purposes Sediment quality assessment(Metal analysis) is safe or not What is the impact of increased levels of pollution to the river water How are the geological factors effecting the quality of water 4/29/12

SIGNIFICANCE

One of the environmental scientific issues There is no base study for the environmentalists to consider (Literature is always useful) Due to the increasing need for SUSTAINABLE 4/29/12 DEVELOPMENT

Brief Description
Selection of site and monitoring it on the map with the help of ARC GIS.
Step 1:

Selection of site is based on the fact that, water and sediment quality will be altered when small streams are added to the river or at any point source of contamination. Two sites have been selected for sampling purpose, namely:

Sujanpur Bridge (Jaisinghpur) Stream is added and it is even a point source of contamination

Bhaleth small stream is being added to the main river 4/29/12 course

Brief Description
Sampling at the selected sites (Water and sediment samples) with an interval on 1month.
Step 2:

Water samples should be taken in BOD bottles for DO and BOD experiments and a 5litre can for rest of the experiments Sediment samples should be taken in air tight polyethylene bags

Brief Description
Metal analysis of sediment samples(Sequential extraction and Atomic absorption spectroscopy).
Step 4:

Sequential Extraction:
It is an analytical process that chemically leaches metals out of soil, sediment and sludge samples. The purpose of sequential extraction is to mimic the release of the selective metals into solution under various environmental conditions. Sequential extraction procedure has been extensively studied in the analysis of trace metals including Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Mn, Ni, Pb and Zn in both river sediments and marine sediments.

Brief Description
Sequential Extraction: Process in 4 steps

Acetic acid All exchangeable, acid and water soluble metals Hydroxyammonium chloride all reducible metals Hydrogen Peroxide all oxidizable metals Aqua Regia All remaining non-silica bound metal

Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy: A spectro analytical procedure for the quantitative and qualitative determination of chemical elements employing the absorption of optical radiation by free atoms in the gaseous state. 4/29/12

Brief Description
Risk Assessment(Calculation accumulation index)
Step 5:

of

geo-

Geo-accumulation Index (Igeo):With the help of Risk Assessment Code (RAC), Geoaccumulation Index can be found and impact can be assessed.
