Creating a Release Area


Create a Release Area 1. Review Before You Install ClearCase in Installation Guide. 2. Prepare hardware environment, including release area host. 3. Run the Rational Setup Wizard (setup.exe) to set site defaults. 4. Save settings of site default file.

Preparing You Hardware Environment


Before installing ClearCase, select machines for:
License Server Registry Server VOB Servers View Servers Clients Release Host holds ClearCase license database files holds ClearCase registry files hold VOB physical storage areas hold view physical storage areas execute ClearCase commands holds distribution materials for ClearCase installation

Preparing a Release Host


Provides storage for the ClearCase distribution, including executables, config files, and Help files. Should be accessible to all ClearCase hosts. Should be a network share. Should have fast file-system access. Should have 350 MB of disk space Should be infrequently booted. Does NOT have to have ClearCase installed. Does NOT have to be backed up (can be reinstalled from ClearCase distribution media).

Running the Rational Setup Wizard


1 Setup Wizard launches automatically when you insert the CD. Click Next to proceed.

2 Select Enterprise deployment.

3 Click Next to launch the Site Preparation Tool.

Setting Site Defaults: Rational Site Preparation Tool

The Site Preparation Tool guides you through the process of setting site defaults.

Pages marked with red dot require you to input specific information.

Click Next to accept default site settings and move on to next page, or click any page to move to it directly.

Setting Site Defaults: Service Account


Choose Windows account domain, server process user name, and password.

Enter name of ClearCase Administrators group.

Setting Site Defaults: Registry and Mail Servers


Enter names of registry and mail server hosts.

Enter location and name of license server.

Saving Site Defaults


Enter a UNC path for the release area. It must be a shared directory accessible to all potential ClearCase hosts. Enter a description for this configuration.

Choose a descriptive name for the configuration.

You can choose to automatically launch installation using the configuration you have just created once the Release Area is set up.

More commonly, clients will install ClearCase by using the shortcut that is created by the Site Preparation Tool.

Creating Additional Site Defaults for a Release Area


A release area can have multiple site default files
Client vs server installations Different defaults for different user groups

Run Site Preparation Tool by executing siteprep.exe in the release area. Name and save site default files.

Multiple installation configurations created by running siteprep.exe. Click shortcut to launch the installation.

Install ClearCase on ClearCase on Hosts Hosts 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. Launch installation from the Site Preparation Tool or from the shortcut. Accept license agreement terms. Specify directory in which to install ClearCase. Select standard or custom configuration. Install ClearCase and then reboot.

Installing ClearCase on Hosts (cont.)


The shortcut launches the Setup Wizard, which steps you through the installation process.
Accept default location or click Change to specify alternate destination of the installation.

Choose standard configuration or create a custom configuration.

Install ClearCase on hosts in the following order:
License server host Registry server host Server hosts Clients

Running Post-Installation Diagnostic


Run Post-Installation Diagnostic ClearCase Doctor runs automatically after installation. Or run ClearCase Doctor manually: Start > Programs > Rational Software > Rational ClearCase > Administration > ClearCase Doctor

Installing ClearCase Service Releases


Download service releases from the Rational Customer Download Center: http://www.rational.com/support/downloadcenter To speed up and improve downloads, install the Rational Download Manager Two ways to apply service releases:
Install in release area (recommended)
Installs from the release are will now include the patches.

Install on individual host


Only the individual host will be patched.

Removing or Modifying ClearCase


Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs

Click Remove to begin uninstalling ClearCase.

Click Change to choose to modify, repair, or remove ClearCase.
