Multi response optimization of EDM parameters by using Grey relational analysis and Tagauchi method.

Under the Guidance of Dr. M. Pradeep Kumar Associate Professor Dept. of Mechanical Engineering College of Engineering Guindy Anna university, Chennai By MD AZEEM BASHA 2010250014 M.E. - MSM

INTRODUCTION
Electrical discharge machining is a nontraditional, thermo electrical process, which erodes material from the work piece by a series of discrete sparks between the work and tool electrode immersed in a liquid dielectric medium.

NEED FOR THE PROJECT

To investigate the process parameter in Electrical Discharge Machine (EDM) for machining of hardened material To study the effect of process parameters in terms of surface quality of work piece, material removal rate and electrode wear.

OBJECTIVE
To optimize the process parameters of electric discharge machining. To determine the better experimental parameters. To achieve the high MMR, low EWR and better SR. Grey relational co-efficient and grey relational grade. Selection of optimum levels of process parameters and best multiple performance characteristic among the 27 experiments.

A lower current intensity and long pulse duration first part of the erosion to creater a wear inhibitor carbon layer on the surface of the TungstenCopper tool electrode. A higher current intensity and long pulse duration remaining part of erosion cycle, to improve MRR and maintain a lower tool wear due to inhibitor carbon layer.
