WHAT IS A TENSE?

Tense is a form taken by a


verb to show the time of an
action or a state
TENSES

PRESENT PAST FUTURE


EVERY TENSE HAS FOUR
PARTS
INDEFINITE TENSE:-It does not indicate whether the
action is complete
or incomplete.
CONTINUOUS TENSE:-It shows that the action is still
going on.
PERFECT TENSE:-It shows that the action is completed.
PERFECT CONTINUOUS TENSE :-It indicates that the
action is started some time ago and is still going on.
INDEFINITE TENSE

 It does not indicate whether the action is complete or


incomplete.
 For example:-
CONTINUOUS TENSE
Itshows that the action is
still going.
PERFECT TENSE
• It indicates that the work is
completed.
PERFECT CONTINUOUS
TENSE
• It shows that the action started some time
ago and still continuous.
PRESENT INDEFINITE TENSE
• RULES
• (POSITIVE):-SUBJECT+V1+S / ES+OBJECT.
• (NeGATIVE):-SUBJECT+DO NOT / DOES
NOT+V1+OBJECT
• (INTERROGATIVE)
DO / DOES+SUBJECT+V1+OBJECT+?.

• Pattern:-Plural & I :-first form only


Singuler :-first form+s,es

FOR & SINCE is also use in this tense.
(Since & For is used to express time)
USE OF SINCE & FOR
SINCE:-SINCE is used when a point of time is
given. For example:-Monday,7
o’clock,Yesterday,1970,Evening
Morning,noon,September,Last
night,Last
week,Last year etc.

FOR:-FOR is used when a period of time is


given.
For example:-Two days,Six hours,Three
weeks,Four months, Six years,Many days etc.
EXAMPLES OF PRESENT PERFECT
CONTINUOUS TENSE
 The workers have been repairing the road
for many days.
 The gardener has been watering the
plants since morning.
 Have you been learning your lesson for
two hours.
 Have you not been teaching in this school
since 1990.
PAST INDEFINITE TENSE

NEGATIVE:-SUBJECT+DID
