What is a covenant?

- a commitment between two people to do something for each other

What is Gods covenant with the Jews?

- a commitment based on Gods freely given love that the Jews would be Gods chosen people

Were the Jews faithful to their covenant with God? Was God faithful to His covenant with the Jews? Do we experience Gods faithfulness to us today?

Church teaching:

CFC 69 Through His inspired word in the Old Testament, God reveals Himself to us, and inspires us to respond to His covenant.

Essential Elements of Fidelity


1.Fidelity is a remembering (Dt 4:31) 2.Fidelity requires a projection into the future 3.It means loyalty and attachment to the source of love and ability to constantly renew in love (Ps 95: 10)

Morals: We respond to Gods covenant by becoming loving persons in the fullness of lifewith-others-in-community before God, in imitation of Jesus Christ. (CFC 682)

Worship: By praying to God as our Father, we are united to Him as sons and daughters of the Father in the Son, our Lord Jesus Christ. (CFC 2136)
