Story of Mothers Sacrifice during the Japan Earthquake

This is a true story of Mothers Sacrifice during the Japan Earthquake. After the Earthquake had subsided, when the rescuers reached the ruins of a young womans house, they saw her dead body through the cracks. But her pose was somehow strange that she knelt on her knees like a person was worshiping; her body was leaning forward, and her two hands were supporting by an object. The collapsed house had crashed her back and her head.

With so many difficulties, the leader of the rescuer team put his hand through a narrow gap on the wall to reach the womans body. He was hoping that this woman could be still alive. However, the cold and stiff body told him that she had passed away for sure. He and the rest of the team left this house and were going to search the next collapsed building. For some reasons, the team leader was driven by a compelling force to go back to the ruin house of the dead woman. Again, he knelt down and used his had through the narrow cracks to search the little space under the dead body. Suddenly, he screamed with excitement, A child! There is a child!

The whole team worked together; carefully they removed the piles of ruined objects around the dead woman. There was a 3 months old little boy wrapped in a flowery blanket under his mothers dead body. Obviously, the woman had made an ultimate sacrifice for saving her son. When her house was falling, she used her body to make a cover to protect her son. The little boy was still sleeping peacefully when the team leader picked him up. The medical doctor came quickly to exam the little boy. After he opened the blanket, he saw a cell phone inside the blanket. There was a text message on the screen. It said, If you can survive, you must remember that I love you. This cell phone was passing around from one hand to another. Every body that read the message wept. If you can survive, you must remember that I love you. Such is the mothers love for her child!

Self-concept develops from at least four (4) sources:

1) the image of you that others have and that they reveal to you; 2) the comparisons you make between yourself and others; 3) the teaching of your culture; 4) the way you interpret and evaluate your own thoughts and behaviours.

Module III: A-F

Benildeans accept and appreciate the

inherent value of all people, taking every opportunity to seek the betterment of both themselves and others through productive interaction; a core value which demonstrates selfawareness and acceptance of others individual differences.

Module III: A-F

and exhibit that sense of nationalism through their thoughts, words, and actions; a core value that reveals ones sense of nationalism on the local and global perspective as demonstrated by ones appreciation of Filipino cultural heritage.

Module III: A-F

Synthesis
Knowing ones self will lead us to an imperative move, i.e.., reaching out to others (relating, giving, serving, etc.). Bayanihan or volunteerism is the positive action and manifestation after discovering our utmost potential. We do good to others not because of the recognition and reward that we get or because we feel good after we have done it. Instead, it is in self-awareness that as human beings, we have the innate capability to do something good to others or to a community where we belong in the way we were brought up. It is the character of the self that these positive actions are impelled to be done.
Module III: A-F

There is only authentic bayanihan or volunteerism if one has reached a full degree of self-awareness. It is in this context that value of volunteerism becomes unconditional in the sense that it is the concrete expression of altruism.

Module III: A-F

Furthermore, by knowing our core values (BCVs), this would be a good start in helping our country.
Deeply rooted in faith would tell us that loving God should also mean loving our neighbour especially the least.

Sense of nationhood and being socially responsible would emphasize the value of bayanihan and putting forward the common good rather than just focusing on our own interests. Creativity would mean looking for alternative solutions for sustainable living.
Appreciative of individual uniqueness would dictate us that respect is essential in a civilized community.

Module III: A-F

Professionally Competence would mean going global but thinking local or by simply paying the right taxes. With all these values, if we just try to educate , and empower ourselves, we as Filipinos would work towards a common goal, that is to give glory to our motherland, very soon we would lift ourselves out from poverty through our exemplary character. Also, these values (BCVs, Core Values of the Republic and NSTP Values) are intertwined and are connected with the Lasallian identity of Faith, Zeal for Service and Communion in Mission. These can be expounded with the chart shown below:
