 Definition of op-amp

• The op-amp performs operations like addition,

subtraction ,multiplication, integration, differentiation….

• So it is named as operational amplifier (op-amp)

• The op-amp is basically a differential amplifier having a

large voltage gain, very high input impedance and low

output impedance.

 Input/Output of op-amp

The op-amp is having

• Two input terminals

• Inverting (-) input

• Non inverting (+) input

• One output terminal

 Op-amp power supply

• The op-amp is usually powered by a dual polarity power

supply

• The range of supply is from ±5 volts to ± 15 volts

• The below figure shows the logic symbol of op-amp

• The open loop gain of the op-amp is very high

• Low frequency signal is amplified accurately without

distortion
• The open loop voltage gain of the op-amp is not constant

• The voltage gain varies with changes in temperature &

power supply
• The band width of op-amp is negligibly small, almost
zero
