Topic : Understand the Role of computers
Duration : 50 Mts
Sub topic : Importance of Computers
Teaching aids : PPT, Animations & Images

CCP105.3 1
OBJECTIVES:

On completion of this period, you would

be able to :
 Know the importance of Computers
 Processing
 Retrieving
 Graphics Processing
 Scanning
 Store & Retrieve

CCP105.3 2
RECAP

COMPUTER OPERATIONS :

 Arithmetic Operations
 Relational Opertions and
 Logical operations

CCP105.3 3
OTHER COMPUTER OPERATIONS

 Storage & Retrieval  Displaying

 Graphics Processing  Printing
 Scanning  Plotting
 Store & Retrieve

CCP105.3 4
STORAGE & RETRIEVAL

 Storage:- All matter input to the word processor can

be saved for later used by recording on magnetic
media like floppy disk is saved as separate ‘files’

Figure 1
 Retrieve:- Recording or saving data entered in a
computer . You can retrieve by a computer screen or
printed by an output device like a printer
CCP105.3 5
GRAPHIC PROCESSING
 Computer is capable of drawing graphics such as
dots, lines, pictures, on computer screens and
animate such graphics

 You can insert many popular graphics file formats

into your presentation,
 either directly
or
 with the use of separate graphics filters

CCP105.3 6
SCANNER
 Is a device that can transfer an image of photograph or
written information to the computer

 It acts like a photocopy machine

 It can scan typed or handwritten Figure 2: Scanner

 text, graphs, diagrams &

 photographs

CCP105.3 7
DISPLAYING

 Computers can show text, graphics and videos on

computer screen

CCP105.3 8
PRINTER

 Is a device that produces written images (numbers,

alphabets, graphs ,etc) on the paper
 After a document been created on a computer, send it to a
printer for a ‘hard copy’
 The speed of the printer is rated either by ‘page per minute’
(ppm) or characters per second’ (cps)

CCP105.3 9
PLOTTERS
 Are used to produce output containing graphics

 They are primarily of two types

 (i) Drum plotter
 (ii) Flat-bed plotter

 Both types of plotters have one or more pens that

move over the paper to produce the image
