Features of Visual Display Unit

 It is used to display information, programs an

applications in a computer, and also user input
 It is also called display screen, monitor
 It can display the colorful text and pictures
 Like television, they come in different sizes
 Most VDU’s contain Cathode Ray Tubes to dislpay
text or graphics. So they are also called CRT Monitors
 A VDU requires a special device called Adapters to
show graphics in colors

Resolution
 Images on the VDU’s are displayed in dots called
picture elements or pixels
 The greater the number of pixels the better the
picture or text quality
 Pixels are arranged in the form of a grid i,e;
Horizontally and Vertically
 Resolution refers to the number of Horizontal or
vertical pixels of a Monitor
 Quality of VDU’s display depends on Resolution

 An adapter takes instructions from CPU and
generates image and sends it to VDU
 It consists of a PCB with pre-coaded instructions and
Memory to carry out its functions

 Different VDU’s use different displaying Technology

using one color for background and another for
foreground

geometrical shapes like circles, squares etc. and
