Present System:

 The present statistical system in India is


decentralized one – Central and State
governments collect statistics on subject wise
basis

 Central government collects statistics on

Tax, f) Customs and Excise etc.

Statistical Organizations:

 Government of India started a number of


organizations for collection, compilation and
publication of data

4. National Sample Survey Organization (NSSO)

 Each Central Ministry has separate statistical


units for collection and compilation of statistics
relating to its subject

 There are 153 statistical offices attached to the


various Central Ministries

Union Territory is a Statistical Bureau known
by different names such as:

 Directorate of Economics and Statistics

 Bureau of Economics and Statistics

 Directorate of Statistics and Evaluation

 Economic and Statistical Organization

Main Functions of State Statistical
Bureau are:

 To systematically collect, compile, analyze and


interpret Statistics relating to the State

 To co-ordinate with CSO and Statistical Bureau of


other states on all statistical matters covering
more than one state
