The color of Jealously is envy. They are
often used interchangeably.

Jealously - always looking for a new rival,

Envy - resentful of something that

someone else has, ready to rejoice over
someone’s misfortune.

1 Corinthians 3:1-4

And I, brethren, could not speak to you as to

spiritual people but as to carnal, as to babes in
Christ. (2) I fed you with milk and not with solid
food; for until now you were not able to receive
it, and even now you are still not able; (3) for
you are still carnal. For where there are envy,
strife, and divisions among you, are you not
carnal and behaving like mere men? (4) For
when one says, "I am of Paul," and another, "I
am of Apollos," are you not carnal? SLAYING THE

body, But envy is rottenness to the
bones.

This is a matter of materialism. When one

has possession or riches or wealth there are
many others who are jealous. Sometimes it
causes them to make false accusations.

Genesis 26:13 The man began to prosper, and

continued prospering until he (Isaac) became
very prosperous; 14 for he had possessions
of flocks and possessions of herds and a
great number of servants. So the Philistines
envied him. SLAYING THE

Jealously Travels in Power Circles

When there is power or control to gain. We

see this in the life of Moses whose leadership
was opposed often. Remember Korah who
said “You take too much upon yourselves”
Num 16:3. In other words, “We’d lik some of
that power for ourselves.”
This is common throughout the Israelite
kings. A toppling of the throne to be the one
who is toppled. Yet it doesn’t stop in the OT
you see the Pharisees and Sanhedrin leaders
were envious of the disciples fame andSLAYING

Remember David and Saul. It all began when

David killed his giant. Yet Saul took on the
giant of jealously.
Saul got jealous when David was recognized
because of his great success.

Read 1 Samuel 18:6-8

Sadly it happens in the church. We see

rivalries in the church. I have seen it when it
comes to church plays or positions.

When the devil comes to church he knows the

right buttons to push, and what to do to
distract us from our worship.

Philippians 1:15 Some indeed preach Christ
even from envy and strife, and some also
from good will: 16 The former preach Christ
from selfish ambition, not sincerely,
supposing to add affliction to my chains;

Luke 15:28 "The older brother was angry and
wouldn't go in. His father came out and
begged him, 29 but he replied, `All these
years I've worked hard for you and never
once refused to do a single thing you told me
to. And in all that time you never gave me
even one young goat for a feast with my
friends.

We have got to learn to view jealously and
envy in its proper perspective. We must not
view it as a character flaw.

Paul lists it in Gal 5:20

“idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions,
jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish
ambitions, dissensions, heresies,”

Peter says we need to lay it aside and leave it.

1 Peter 2:1
Matthew 27:18 tells us that it was envy that led
Jesus to the cross. SLAYING THE
