THE TEXT

The title presented here as in original French text translates the same way as The Giants. The titles uses a sans font in capital letters, this usually uncommon in poster as the sans serif fonts are only what would be in capitals. This represents the in between that the boys are placed in, the idyllic thought of not being bossed my adults, and the knowing of loneliness without that of parents. The colouring of the typography in white signifying the purity and vulnerability of the young boys and this is furthered in the graphics of the text, that shows a distorted texture to it, highlights again that whilst they are giants in this dream world of theirs, they are cracks also behind this faade in

THE NARRATIVE
In presenting the narrative of the film through

the poster, the clues to this are of the characters shown in the image, three young boys. Two of them are positioned higher than another, suggesting that possibly the theme of age is an issue within the film. The term giants that can refer to them as powerful or to adults, with the use of the text above them could connote adults always being in a state of dominance above these boys. The expression used seem show a longing as they appear to be on a journey in search for something or nothing and this is through the use of the boat as a prop.

THE CAMERA DISTANCE

The camera distance presented in the poster was of one long shot of the three boys on a boat. Usually the use of the long shot is to set the scene and to create a sense of the whole story for the audience of the three boys alone, on a journey, possibly in search for something. The use of the long shot also highlights the isolation of the characters, whilst in many cases this may be applicable when only one character is shown, this shot shows the isolation of all the boys from the outer world and protection and guidance from adults.

THE LIGHTING
The lighting used within the image of the poster is of Notan lighting technique. This is the use of many light sources. This can appear as natural or bright light. If natural, the effect is neutral, if bright, it is positive. In the poster this shows both as the lighting is natural but also bright. Reflective of the the film the lighting is able to correctly draw relation in

THE LAYOUT
The layout of the poster is portrait in shape, which allows for the specific signified use of the image. The position of the text above the boys, in the sky in large, capitalized text, connotes a sense of an unreachable dream or desire to be these successful giants, able and independent beings. It could also connote giants being adults that whilst they are not there as parents, adults still have dominance over them as children.
