INTRODUCTION
It was establish in 1973. It is located at the left bank of the CHAMBLE River at the upstream of KOTA BAIRAJ 1st & 2nd units are of 110 MW each 3rd ,4th &5th units are of 210 MW 6th & 7 unit of 195 MW Total generation capacity (110+110+210+210+210+195+195) =1240 MW Favorable condition Abundant quantity of clean cooling water. Good transport facility Concentration of load in Kota region due to large number of industries.

Layout of thermal power plant

1). The thermal power station burns the fuel and use the heat to raise the steam. 2). Heat from the coal is absorbed by kilometers long tubes in boiler walls by Boiler Feed Water and transferred to the turbine blades rotating them. 3). When turbine rotates, the rotor housed inside the stator turns with it. 4). Electricity is produced by the movement of magnetic field created by rotor. 5). This electricity passes to the transformer which steps up the voltage for effective transmission. 6). The used steam is changed back into water in the condenser for reuse.

Wagon unloading system

Unload the coal from wagon to hopper. Hopper allows to pass coal pieces 200mm From hopper coal fall on vibrator which is supported by roller.

Crushing system
CRUSHER HOUSE:- Its main function to crush the coal to 20mm Two types
Primary crusher

o Rail crusher o Rotary breaker

Secondary crusher

Conveying system
Stacker reclaimer:- This unit can stack the material on to the pipe and feed on to the main line conveyor. Specification: Belt width : 1400mm Speed : 2.2m/sec Total install power : 360kw Capacity : 1350/750 ton/hr No. of conveyor: 38

Coal fired steam power plant

It can be divided into 4 sub plants :
Fuel and Ash plant Air and Gas plant Feed water and steam circuit. Cooling water circuit.

Boiler
It is a closed vessel in which water under pressure is convert into steam. Hot water or steam used to transfer heat to a process. A boiler is always designed to absorb max amount of heat released in process of combustion. Furnace:- It is primary part of boiler where the

Steam Turbine
It is a machine in which a shaft is rotated steadily by reaction of steam, air, water, gases etc. upon blades of a wheel. When Steam is used then called steam turbine.
Kinetic Energy Mechanical power

Generator
An electrical generator is a machine which converts mechanical energy into electrical energy through electro mechanical energy conversion . The generator is driven by directly coupled steam turbine at a speed of 3000 r.p.m

Cooling System
In KSTPS hydrogen cooling system is employed for generator cooling. Hydrogen is used because of its superior cooling properties & low density. Thermal conductivity of H2 7.3 times of air.

Water pump
Circulating water pump:- It is a requirement of the condenser to condensate the steam by cooling water. Five pump are used for condensing. Each pump has capacity of 8275 m3/hr and develop pressure about 1.94kg/cm2 Firstly water is purified and filtered and pumped to elevation of 42 mtr where it is stored and used for cooling the oil cooler.

TRANSFORMER

Transformer:- It is a static device used to change voltage level keeping the power and frequency same. There are nearly 83 transformer through out the plant. Transformer are located b/w main plant & switchyard.

Types of transformer a) Generator Transformer-A b) Generator Transformer-B c) Station transformer d) Unit auxiliary transformer e) Station service transformer

Protection

Protection of stator
Faults: Phase to phase fault. Phase to phase earth. Short circuit b/w lines. Overheating

Protection of winding
Faults
First rotor fault Second rotor fault. Interterm fault.

Various device are used to detect faults which can give alarm to operator. It is required to have minimum tripping time.

Magnetic unbalance can produce can produce serious vibration and distortion of the rotor shaft.
