Curriculum is concerned with making general statements about language learning, learning purposes and experiences, and the relationship between teachers and learners. Whereas syllabus is more localized and is based on the accounts and records of what actually happen in the classroom as teachers and students apply a curriculum to their situation (Nunan, 1988:3). Topical/ Content Syllabus which is a syllabus that arranged based on the topic and indicates a clear set vocabulary items to be learnt (Louanne Piccolo, 2010).

Definition
Syllabus is selection and grading of content (Nunan, 1988).

The selection of the content usually arranged from simple to complex. Topical/Content-based syllabus is a syllabus which is organized by themes, topics, or other unit of content (Richard, 2001). Topical/ Content Syllabus which is a syllabus that arranged based on the topic and indicates a clear set vocabulary items to be learnt (Louanne Piccolo, 2010). Topical/content syllabus is a syllabus that focused on topic and the topic itself is the root of content selection. The topic itself decided first and used as the suggestion for the other tasks and activities.

Advantages It can enhance motivation because the topic engages authentic content that sparks student interest and curiosity. They make the learner or students more actively. Content makes linguistic form more meaningful. Teaching around the same topic for several months can create ample chances for recycling and reinforcing grammar and vocabulary. Topical content syllabus allow for integration of the four skills (reading, listening, speaking, writing).

Disadvantages
Uninteresting topics can be de-motivating. Working on the same topic for a long time could turn

out boring. It is so hard to make balance between content and grammar since in this syllabus focused on topics. Using topics as the overarching criterion in planning a course leaves other questions unresolved. Different topics may require language of differing levels of complexity and, as a consequence, it may not always be possible to reconcile the different strands of the syllabus.
